Looking at renting a cottage at the end of June for 3 nights from Friday through till Monday and wondered if anyone had any recommendations of places they've stayed or websites they've used.

It'll be for 2 people only (me and the fairly recent other half) so somewhere more on the impressive side would be nice. Cost not too much of an issue and willing to look at cottages and chalets etc.

Would normally look on National Trust Cottages but they obviously don't cover Scotland. Neither of us have ever really been to Scotland previously so we're not looking at a particular area at the minute. Travelling up from Manchester though.

Any pointers? No biking will be involved, just walks and relaxation.

Thanks
Andy

found www.wildernesscottages.co.uk recently, not used them yet but good website and some great looking houses. We will be trying them later in year ourselves.

We've used this site a couple of times, both places we've stayed were really nice.

I've got a couple of mates who have a stunning place to rent on the beach in Balintore. It's about 20mins from Golspie and about 45mins north of Inverness. Maybe too far north for you?

I ve stayed at Tigh Bhaan last year. Was awesome loch side location and well equipped and not too pricey.

Nice restaurant/pub a few miles away and good remote walks as well.

neighbours very friendly and wildlife amazing.

http://www.glencoe-cottages.com/ - Torren in Glen Coe. Fishing, hiking, climbing, boozing, mountain biking (at Fort William). A great little place.

One thing though - you might find it hard to get a weekend rental from a good place. Most of them prefer to rent by the week and often they're booked out months in advance. Didn't check if that one above is available in June or not.

Thanks people, looks like I've got some leads to check out this afternoon.

doug_basqueMTB.com - sounds ideal but possibly too far north.

bruneep - Harris as in on the Isle of Rum? If so, I think it'll be easier to stick to the mainland.

"www.garmoransquare.com/" i can't do the internet link thing but this is our favorate place . we have been three times and it is fab . very handy for some trully stunning scenary wildlife etc and has some good local/rural amenities near by . very very quiet and tranquil lovely owners next door . i was tempted not to post it as i wan't to be able to book again without too much competition for dates.

it's 30 to 40 mins from the corran ferry (near fort william ),on single track roads, but not hard core singletrack. 7 hours drive from leeds.

A friend stayed there with new SO & enjoyed it. I remember 2-week holidays there from 40 years ago, magical.

If budget isn't an issue then http://www.thetorridon.com/boathouse/ looks very nice indeed. Haven't stayed there but would quite like to sometime.
