Seeking some advice here. Any suggestions much appreciated from the STW camping
collective!

We had planned a few days in the highlands at the start of Sept and then a trip over to Mull to camp at fidden farm. However, Mrs Beagle will be 5.5 months pregnant and I was a bit weary of being so remote if any medical attention was needed (its our first, may be worrying a bit too much).

Criteria:

Nice beach/Sea close by
Relatively midge free (moon on stick, I know)
Hopefully electric hook up for the van
Potential for a distillery visit for me
Riding close by for a cheeky hour or two
One or two nice eateries within a short drive for when we're tiring of camping food

Was thinking west coast, but have an open mind! Any suggestion used wins a postcard and a mystery suprise (not shortbread).

Cheers!

Glenmore fits most of those criteria, but it's a bit of a trek from Mull.

Cheers. Mull will probably be out for this year. I'll take the nipper back when he/she can get in a Kayak and explore the beach 😀

I'll make two, neither of which fit all the crieria, but
Roseview Caravan Park, Oban also known as the divers campsiote as it's close to the Puffin Dive Centre (head for there then keep going another 1/2 mile or so down that road to get to the campsite
No beaches nearby, Oban isn't noted for them, but Mull is easily accessable.
Oban isn't blessed with great eateries as far as I know, but it's ok. It does have a distillery though. You might also want to book for the Ben Criachan tour - a power station inside a hollowed out mountain, Google Hollow Mountain, it's on the way to Oban.
Silversands, Arisaig - no link. On a point, looking onto a white sand beach which is in a bay so well sheltered, although the campsite itself isn't. Miles from Mallaig which isn't blessed with any great eateries, although there's supposed t be a good Thai in Morar (never been there myself). The beaches are awesome. There are a few accessible islands (Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna) as well as Skye.
Hookups at both points, midges IIRC not so bad at Silversands. Biking probably plentiful at both sites, but definitely at Arisaig.
EDIT Google maps for B8008, then plonk yourself down for some Streetviewing, low tide and not a particularly nice day, but you'll get the picture - the campsites opposite the south end of the golf course

Appin has a great wee site.

And Scotland has NHS air ambulances and Hospitals in the Highlands.

Not West Coast, but I've always liked the Rothiemurchus campsite - great facilities and not too far for good eating. Not coastal admittedly but does tick your other boxes!

Gorten Sands, Arisaig.

Arisaig or Strontian if you want west - anywhere west coast would be a nip to Fort William, and if it is that serious the paraffin budgie would be called.
As above, in Autumn I would consider Perthshire, Royal Deeside or Speyside - the trees, colour, smells and riding are all ace 🙂

There's two campsites on Islay. Port Mor, near Port Charlotte & Kintra, near Port Ellen, & If you haven't heard about Islay's beaches....
There's a hospital in Bowmore, & eight distilleries on the island. The riding however isn't mindblowing but a hardtail is a good idea as the roads are atrocious!

Arisaig is a stunning area, but the nearest hospital or whisky factory is in Ft Willy.

Is Silver Sands the smaller one just round the bay from the big place- has a sort of rocky cove at one end, and a wee rocky island joined at low tide with a sandbar, and really nice clambering rocks all the way round the front? And access onto the big beach at the other end? If so- it is fab, quite basic but was an amazing playground as a kid, felt like the sort of place famous five stories would be set.

Rothiemurchus is a gorgeous location, trees and beach and mountains and water all at the same time.

Invercoe campsite at the bottom of Glencoe ticks a lot of boxes.

Back at my PC now, so....

Gorten Sands is (as the name would suggest) on it's own private beach. There are lots of other wee coves around too. Bens beach (from Local hero) is just up the coast a couple of miles.

Local riding includes the trail along Loch Morar..

The Cnoc-Na-Faire Hotel is walking distance and does lovely food, including the best fish and chips I've ever had (liberally supplied with home made tartare sauce too). There are other good eateries in both Mallaig (pub grub) and Arisaig.

Get the timetable for the steam trains and watch them go by.

Drive to Mallaig, park and get the ferry over to Armadale for the trip itself and to walk around the Clan Donald visitor centre.

Some decent views too....

Appin has a great wee site.

And Scotland has NHS air ambulances and Hospitals in the Highlands.

And a Charity Air Ambulance. Those NHS ones spend a lot of time on pre planned passenger transfers.

Cough donations cough welcome ahem. Cough.

Invercoe is very nice, can be midgy, although there have been sod all midges here this year really.

Camusdarach at Arisaig is a nice campsite/caravan site too.

I think the Thai at Morar is the one that a lady does from her kitchen at home - supposed to be very good.

It would be Inverness for the sprog, not Fort William. Although it's further away, this is very much a good thing not a bad thing 🙂

scotroutes route along loch morar could be finished by taking the track over to east loch tarbert then the ferry back to mallaig - it's an awesome ferry ride, but check availability with bruce watt ferries

Loch Lomond ticks all the boxes, even a distillery at Balloch. Pebble not sandy beach mind. Camped at Balmaha last year.
