going for an interview with a micro brewery, run by a friend, who are looking to expand. half of the job would be actual brewing (hurrah!) the other half will be sales and deliveries. now the brewing bit is fine, i can do that, but i don't really have any experience selling, having been a practical sort of chappie. i have been a self employed builder in the domestic sector, so have got transferable skills, i think... any pointers about what to ask/expect much appreciated
I don't know if this will help or not, but probably worth the read.

As a self employed, I guess this means that you get on well with people, you'll be fine.
More leads equals more sales.Once you have a sale, service, service, service.Far easier to keep a customer than find a new one.
Hard to give advice on selling, but one big tip I could give on getting through the door on repeat customers is have a rolodex (or new fangled iphone app version) of customers. Each time you see them, find out about them and write notes. The guy who spent a couple of minutes on the phone asking how the kids who just started school last time he saw them are doing etc will get the call over the guy who just calls to sell. Also jot down sales info, i.e. they did really well with beer A last Christmas so you have an excuse to call next Christmas.
Get to grips with the CRM tool (sort of what Nickdavies) said above. We use Zoho as a cloud tool meaning it's with us everywhere. Notes on customers, potential, history etc. great tool.
excellent stuff, i was thinking was there such a tool, thanks all, free beer, here i come
