Itoge is having a pig of a game. Thank god Farrell is trying to take it by the scruff. Still pretty dull from England, I can only see an Irish win here.

last pass was marginally forward.

Not sure you understand the rules, hands clearly went backwards

another rules numpty question here (sorry, on delay currently so a bit behind too)

Just before England scored there was another penalty advantage, for what looked like another maul going down. England went on and scored, so the advantage was made good, but the player escapes sanction for deliberate foul play.  Could the ref allow the try AND give a yellow card?

What about if it was a serious infringement, as opposed to a technical-professional one?

England imploding.  How many stupid penalties / free kicks?  3 early engagements?  Itoje a mile off side at an Irish ruck on their own line?

England really need a serious rethink.  You will never get those backs running in space with Farrell in there slowing everything down a mile behind the line or kicking away good ball.  Need a breakdown specialist and some speed in the back row.  Most of all tho they need a smart player or two or Jones needs to allow them to think on the ground and change things up / chance things

My favourite tmo again.

last pass was marginally forward. Tmo only sees one angle of the pass he is asked to look at – from behind ffs!

For the TMO to rule it forward it has to be "clear and obvious" and they look at the direction of the hands.  The TMO gets more replays than we do - he sits in front of a bank of monitors and you could hear the TMO say " I have looked at all the angles pass was fine"

Wahey, whom had ''It's Farrel's fault" in the are bullshit bingo?

I'd go no effectiveness at stopping Ireland when they string 15 plus phases together (decent 7 anyone?) and 7 trillion stupid penalties as bigger problems than Farrell at 10....pretty sirs he created a try today....

England are playing the ref and tmo to be fair to be fair.  Theyre still shit.

England are getting exactly what they deserve this tournament. Dreadful selection decisions, a stunning lack of on-field intelligence which is at least partially due to having a half-wit as a captain and a massive lack of leadership. They have basically regressed back to the Lancaster years, making me think that the problems go higher than the coaching team. Even for an England fan, it's tough to get behind them at present.

Just because you squeaked past Italy TJ....😉

Farrell hasn’t been that bad; certainly better than Ford has been this year. Itoje needs a break. We need to build some form of scoreline.

Farrell has been one of the few shining lights for England this game. I'll be interested to see his tackling stats this game where he hasn't had to cover Fords channel as well as his own.

I’d have thought England should be fairly happy with the 2nd half so far - but they need to score next and soon.

Not much of a game for the neutral is it..

Love the fact that ireland are not really competing at the breakdown though aftervall the talk this week!!

Right - I’m not posting any more, because I’m just getting angry. The lack of consistency on high tackles, and holding up the player for a maul is really gripping my p@ss.

well done Ireland - best team in this years competition.

Best team won. Besides a few high tackles, I thought the ref was the best I have seen this tournament. Great stuff from Ireland, thoroughly deserved GS.

If Farrell had packed his kicking boots it’d have been a bit closer.

Well played Ireland, deserved winners having been the form team this year. Hello fifth place for us.

@BM, more the sequence of games than today’s in particular. Remarkable job by Schmidt to manage the green machine to a GS. Deserves real credit for that.

Nope we do not.  the TMO has a bank of monitors.  He puts on the big screen what he wants the ref to see.    He is in a speci8alist truck full of high tech gear that allows him to look at things in detail.  Google images rugby tmo will show you the set up usually used

Yes the first year of the tmo they just used the live feed but no longer

Mindmapo - its was never in doubt.

Farrell for me is good at what he does.  Its what he doesn't do.  He lies so deep and static that by the time he passes the next player gets caught miles behind the game line.  How much good possession did he kick away - yes he created one try with a beautiful kick but he also kicked away good attacking ball 3 or 4 times, gave away a stupid penalty and most importantly does not create space outside him - instead he just uses up all the space.

He is a flat track bully in cricket terms as are england as a whole

If I cared I'd be lookingvto blame the forwards. Simmonds is a shit 8. Offers no go forward.

Ta, but he can still only look at 1 thing at a time. That article says SANZAR only, no not sure if we get the same here.

He still can’t see a clear knock on, or where Carney tackles May on the line round the neck, and he picks a very marginal high clear out by Daly, but can’t see the far worse original tackle.

Looking back, it was really Johnny’s drop goal that won the GS. None of the next four games looked in doubt.

But havent they always been? Traditionally we’ve relied on a big pack and goal kickers; look how we rescued the 2007 WC against Australia.

Farrell is no means the best FH but he’s not as bad as you make out. But I do t think there’s many players that measure up to Russell in your eyes.

I agree and I think I most people do. Ireland’s accuracy under pressure is rather good and probably unrivalled in the NH.

They did give a few penalties away today but they were on the opposition ball, slowing things down etc. Whereas we’ve mastered the art of giving them away when we’re attacking.

Cracking try by France.

TomB - i'll find a pic later to show what I mean.  How many times did England create space in the backs?  How many times diud they get outside ireland?

Mindmap - thats the problem for me - england are still trying to play the game as it was not as it now is.

Mindmap - Russell - world class for a few minutes each game!  If we could breed them we might get Farrells consistency with Russell skills - or we could get Russells consistency with Farrells skills * hides behind sofa at the thought*

Mindmap – thats the problem for me – england are still trying to play the game as it was not as it now is.

But up until now it’s been very successful; back to back 6N’s including a grand slam, whitewashed Australia, beat Argentina away etc. My main concern is that they don’t / can’t adapt to what happens on the day. Today was another example; Ireland didn’t flood the breakdown as expected yet England didn’t bother carrying through the guts. That needs a lot of work.

So who played themselves into a world 15 then?  Who increased their standing and who goes back to the training ground.

Improved maybe world class?

Scotland - Gray / Barclay?

Ireland -  Murray and Sexton?  Stockdale?  The whole team for theior cohesivness and reading of the game?

Wales - AWJ impressed today but I want to give a shout to 1/2p - his defensive positioning immense today

France - Fat bastard was immense.

Italy - Tomaso allen looked the part - not world class but surely he has made that Italy 10 shirt his.

England - did anyone really put in a good performance?  Robshaw worked very hard for not a lot.

Back to the training ground

Russell - to much shite amongst his genius

Townsend - too many selection errors

The whole England team 😉

Loopy Liam?   luck his hot headedness did not cost Wales more

Better than 3rd 4th or 5th!!

Winning three home games was about par. Would have been nice to have knicked one of the away games.  Given the squad we started with I'm quite pleased really. If Jiffy Junior comes back as good as ever we'll be set for the world cup. We arent going to uncover any big ball carrying forwards though which is what we need. Having said that Tips at 6 today isnt the answer to any question.
