Kicked around the floor by the kids it's now scratched and skips, stutters and jumps.
As far as I know it's not available anymore and I didn't back it up.

Any ideas? Can the scratches be polished out? Nothing to lose.

Can't be polished out AFAIK. You could try cleaning the disc up by wiping gently from the inside out (radially) to clean it best you can. Never wipe round the disc.

Also, some CD players/drives have better error correction than others, so it might still play OK in your car. Obviously, if it'll play on the PC, you can rip it and burn a new CD 🙂

It's not on iTunes.
And I've never really got the hang of file-share/torrent stuff.

Sadly, my car cd's even fussier than my home one.

But... I have had a new laptop since it happened - the old one wouldn't read it but this one might.

You can get a little device that you basically put some polish into it and then the CD, turn a handle and it fills in the scratches, i think Maplin sell them. Won't resurrect anything that's completely mullered but might help.

I once read that you can fix them with a rub of WD40

Depends which side is scratched really. You can often recover CDs that are scratched on the bottom side by T-Cutting them back to smooth. But if the foil layer is damaged it's had it. Name the CD, if I can find it for you I'll put it somewhere easy to download?

Ta for the offer but I've found it for sale for a couple of quid. It was actually a couple of years ago that it got f***ed - when I checked then it was 'collectable' and ~£40, now it's obviously just old and surplus to requirements for someone.

Giving it a go with EAC too which says it's going to take another 8 hours or so. I'll have a look tomorrow morning.

Brasso and an old T-shirt really does often work. Depends on how bad the scratches are though.

colleague at work got my deeply scratched OSX disc cleaned at one of those gaming shops where they sell second hand game discs, worked very well

I'll second the brasso polish. Alternatively you could go into a shop that sells second hand cds/games and ask very nicely to use their polishing machine - gamestation in sheffield has one, so I presume other stores would.

Well, EAC has been working on it all night. It was on track 3 when I went to bed, now it's on track 6 (of 21) estimating another 36hours to go.

At this rate it's likely the new copy I ordered last night will be here before EAC is finished but I want to see if it works.
