We will be in touch
I have an old Sierra Designs Lightyear CD 1-man tent that I dragged out of the loft and the shock cords in the tent poles have lost all of their elasticity, they are a floppy mess.
So I need to replace them with some new shock-cord. I can find online suppliers of shock-cord but I don't know how much to buy as the current cord is all floppy and stretched, hence not in it's original form.
Is there a rule for this? It will need to be slightly stretched to maintain the "spring" to help the poles click together but I'm not sure how much to get.
thanks
I'd start by measuring the poles' total length then ordering the same length of shock-cord plus some extra for mistakes then do some experimenting. It's not going to cost you a huge amount extra in cord and it'll give you capacity to make the odd mistake.
Or you could try asking the guys at Scottish Mountain gear who I've found very helpful in the past, but I'd have thought you could work it out pretty easily once you have the cord. I suspect it differs in elasticity as well, so just buying and trying is maybe the only reliable solution.
Measure the length of poles and I'll send you that amount.
Stick some coins in a tin as payment?
Also measure the total length of poles including the bits that slide into each other.
The stretched length needs to be more than the total of all the bits added together
And the unstretched length needs to be less than the length of the pole in one piece
