Hi,

anyone done this recently? I'm looking for a guideline cost to replace 3 misted units, biggest 540x960mm. Frames are fine, it's just the sealed glass units that need replacing.

Cheers,

SC

it depends on their whereabouts

If the glass is below 800mm from the floor then it is deemed as a safety issue and therefore needs to be safety glass(toughened/laminated...dependant on the use) to comply with regulations.....also includes doors and anywhere within 150mm of a door....this dramatically increases the price

you also need to measure the overall thickness of the unit(outside edge to other outside edge as different frames need different thickness units
They can be anywhere from a 6mm gap to 20mm gap with 2 panes of 4-6mm glass

so if your unit is 24mm total thickness then you will need to order a unit in your length/height requirements and state that it needs to be 4/16/4 ..4mm glass,16mm gap,4mm glass etc

if the measurments are correct, I suspect that your windows are either bedroom/lounge/kitchen windows....have a measure of the floor to glass height.

sorry if this is long winded btw

Thanks.

Floor to glass as 850mm and no doors involved so it should be relatively straightforward.

Not sure on thickness of the glass but it looks like a 20mm gap between panes (difficult to measure).

Anywhere on the web I'd get some prices?

you'll prolly pay 17-18 m2 + vat for a clear DG unit, you'll need to pop the old unit out to measure the overall thickness as well

We went straight to the manufacturer, got 2 frames and panes (1 about 1.8m x 0.9m, the other about 1.2 square) for about £350.

Wooden or UPVC frames? Wooden frames tend to have 4x6x4 units and a unit the size you mentioned should be about 40-50 quid. Most glaziers will do free measuring/costing too.

Our Glazing we use at work comes from System3 at Denton And it costs us £32 m2 for standard 4/20/4 units or £36 for toughened 4/20/4 units. Sure if we were buying the frames it would be cheaper.

So based on your info around the £50 per unit +vat
