Now, as with most things there's more than a little nuance  to this and the figures are from a "think tank". Even so...

It also shows a stark contrast to how emerging economies are embracing renewables whilst the EU and US etc are lagging behind. Again, there's nuisance to this but that's about the crux of it.

Worth a read for those interested.

Thanks for that, a nice bit of positive news for a change. Still a long way to go, but progress nonetheless.

In my opinion this comes down to the conservative attitude of pretending that any change is an assault on personal rights, coupled with the fact that most people who hold these views are uneducated and backwards (even Boris Johnson was very pro-renewable energy).

Indeed.  Despite the positive sounding story, fossil fuels are still the primary source for energy with coal and oil (along with gas) remaining the three largest sources by far.

I haven't validated the data source, but it suits my view of the world so obviously there's no need to. 😉

It’s probably no different to the use of mobiles in the 90s and subsequently smart phones in emerging economies (poor people with phones!!!), where essentially they’re skipping a few generations of tech (fixed lines, centralised infrastructure).

Smaller scale and community-level power generation via solar / water / wind must be so much simpler than building fossil fuel and nuclear power stations.

They will probably leapfrog the West at some point because the sun is on their side.

Just listened to an excellent podcast about how China is meeting its energy demands:

https://feeds.acast.com/public/shows/solving-for-climate. (you have to scroll a bit to the 'Is China a Climate Leader' episode).

Hard to give a tl:dr on it as it's a fairly complex picture but there's much to be optimistic about from China's approach to renewables and what it means for renewables globally.

Still lots of work to do but progress is happening!

This will almost certainly be derided as lies, and fake news created by the Extreme Left! Drill, baby, drill!

Meanwhile, in China, according to NASA, the amount of water in the 3 Gorges Dam has caused the earths crust to deform so much it’s actually moved the earths axis.
