We will be in touch
So, the background story:
My dad's car passed to my sister after he died a few years ago.
My sister didn't look after the car and the MOT lapsed. She has since had the car scrapped.
The car still had my dad's personal registration plate on it, but as the car was untaxed and without MOT we were unable to take the registration from it (DVLA rules to stop people avoiding paying to keep the number on retention).
Any ideas on how I could get the registration number back? I'm prepared to pay for it.
Will the DVLA reissue it if the car has been declared as scrapped?
Pretty sure they stay with the car and won't be reissued. Recommissioning the car and getting it through an MOT to transfer the plate off would be the only way.
Best thing you can do is contact the DVLA, they will then usually put the plate into an auction, that way they get the best price they can, and you get chance to purchase it.
Thanks guys. I'll give the DVLA a call on Monday and see what they say.
the plates gone tough.. however your only chance to recover it is to purchase the plate again either from the dvla if dvla still have it.. and thats a big if becasue they sell anything of percived value. or from its new owner, the best way to find if they have sold the number is to look it up on there own website,
following MASSIVE cutbacks at dvla your not going to have a chat with someone about it.. you ll call and be directed to the website..
