what can you recommend then??
currently on p7's and i don't rate them at all.
cheers

I'd suggest avoiding Pirelli, but it sound's like you are doing just that.
I've recently put some Bridgestone ER300s on my focus. At first I was disappointed compared to the Michelin pilots I had on before, but then I pumped them up to the correct pressure (which the garage had failed to do!) and now they work much better!
Loads of grip (best I've tried) and not to too bad a price. I think I paid £75 each (same size as you).
My focus has Continental (something) tyres and they're working their way towards 40,000 miles at the moment. Seem to go, stop and go round corners quite well.
The lease company we were with used to insist on Dunlop SP1 [I think]
They seemed to last for ages & felt good
Try Blackcircles.com. I have used them a few times and they are the cheapest i can find for Mrs Surfer's Alfa.
They deliver to a local garage and you drive and they fit them
I always use Vredestein and they have been brilliant in all weathers. I have had Ultracs, Ultrac Sessantas, Sportrac 2s and 3s and Wintracs (winter tyres). Superb. For your size, I imagine the Sportracs would be available. They certainly last but their grip is what I'm amazed with - better than anything I've tried.
Oh, try www.mytyres.com or www.camskill.com
Both good although mytyres is now a bit more expensive than it used to be. Make sure the garages don't rip you off when they fit them or just simply find a local Vredestein dealer and try to get him close to the online price.
Have a look at some tyre reviews on

Vredestein were good n grippy on mine but wore out quick on the rear. Less than 7000 miles!
That's 500+bhp for you 😉
MM
Obviously avoid the ditchwitches/ditchfinders but Kumho's are supposed to be quite good for the money.
If you are local to Manchester try Event tyres
Kumho KU31 Ecsta Spts are good. I've had a fair few pairs & they grip well wet & dry, last pretty well & aren't too loud.
Just ordered myself 2 from Camskill (205/45/16) and they came to £105 delivered.
I have also had good performance from Vredestein Hi-Tracs. The Sportracs are meant to be good, but not sure how long they will last.
The Kumhos are on over 30k miles on the front of my Ibiza 1.9TDI (130bhp/310Nm torque) - the previous tyres that the bloke I was buying it from put on before I collected it lasted 22k miles.
Vredesteins seconded.
Same size wheels as yours, currently with Ultracs (not Sessantas).
£60 a corner fitted, great wet grip, a touch noisier than the Contis they replaced though.
Wear seems okay on an Octavia VRS estate thus far.
It was a toss-up between the Sportrac and Ultracs - the Ultracs were easier to get hold of at the time.
Conti vert pros
4 Kumho KU31 Ecsta's in that exact size cost me £220 3 weeks ago from blackcircles, they seem to grip well and are much quieter than either the Conti's or the Bridgestones on previously. Can't comment on the wear as I have only done around 1000 miles on them so far
I've just torn up a set of kumhos in less than 5000 miles. Not running them again.
I've had KU 31's and they are ok.
Personelly i'm a big fan of Avons, had lots of ZZ3's and now running Zv5's
Always seem a good balance between grip and wear rate. And you are bothered by such things they are still made in England.
(the last ZV5 i brought was £80.60 fitted for a 225.40.18 W)
Also i've Goodyear NCT5's in your size they were good for the money around £55 a corner.)
jam bo - MemberI've just torn up a set of kumhos in less than 5000 miles. Not running them again.
**** me is your hair on fire & what are you driving?
I'm not known as the most gentle driver & my car has torque aplenty but the last time I killed a set of tyres in 5000 miles was in an M3 Evolution back in 1997!
Kumho KU31 previously lasted quite well considering the price (A4 tdi with 18" wheels) Michelin Pilots on the wifes zafira grip very well and seem to be wearing very well but VERY expensive compaired to the alternatives. Always found Dunlop SP's very hard wearing if you can get them in your size.
I use Goodyear Eagle F1's
rolling on 4 different part worn economy tyres which cost £75 fitted inc straightening a rim i bent in the snow, i brake late and corner hard (for a passat estate) and they've done anything unexpected.
Avon ZV3's or ZZ3's are a very good combination of performance, wear, grip, and economy. Otherwise you could look at Falken's range (cheap but pretty high performing with it), Kumho's or perhaps Firestone. Of course you could buy some Goodyear Eagle F1's, but you'd probably be wasting your money considering your tyre use!
Got 4 Firestone 300 from kwik fit for 60 quid each last week, same size on my Octavia. Can't comment on durability yet but handling is superb, so I suspect durability won't be amazing
3rd for Vredestein
they have just released a new tyre the Ultrac Cento, supposed to be quiter and longer lasting, should be good if you can find a deal
Aviod Toyo's well nosiy and not that gripy, my old Dunlop SP01's werent bad, lasted well but not great in the wed
Conti sport contacts are the OE cmax tyre IIRC, pretty decent but not cheap
Never skimp on tyres, that couple of meters braking you loose will come back to haunt you 1 day!
A tyre is a tyre! Get the cheapest but a well known brand. Drive gently and they will last twice as long. You'll also save gallons of fuel, brake pads, your heart and will dramatically reduce the risk of getting in a smash up.
Mobile tyre fitters online worked out cheapest for me. They come to you - amazingly convenient!
Second spongebob.
This mobile tire fitter is my favourite in the west yorks area:
http://www.ids-tyres.co.uk/index.htm
Found him via black circles.
I've had a few GY F1's over the years and i don't think i've ever worn one out. They have always gone bad- de-laminated, or developed flat spots (the last one to do this managed it on the back!).
Spongebob, are you serious? I changed my wife's tyres on her Honda Civic Type R and suddenly, she wasn't sliding around and could actually grip and go the way she wanted to go (she does not drive like a psycho in any way incidentally). The tyres she had originally were premium tyres and more expensive than the Vredestein Ultracs I replaced them with.
eddyesi has the idea - never skimp on tyres (but you also have to realise that you should not just go for the most expensive). I feel much better now that my wife can actually stop when it's cold, wet or snowy. It's not always 20C and dry.
