Got a 10hr drive tomorrow. Going to do a raid on iTunes tonight to download some new tunes. Any recommendations?

I like Muse, Radiohead, Modest Mouse, Pixies, etc.

Pearl Jam's new one 'backspacer' is really good.

New one from Dove's or on a more chilled note Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid

Or for a bit of retro brilliance Faith No More - from out of nowhere, still amazing.

+1 For Liquid1000 on PJ.

If you like Modest Mouse stevomcd (and tbh they are superb), then try Sun Kill Moon's - Tiny Cities.

You may like the modest mouse covers. But then I love Red House Painters!

Cribs
Grizzly Bear
Damien Jurado

to name a few...

Band of horses - if in the right frame of mind. Their track Funeral is on that special Danny Macaskill you tube vid.

New editors album is out - not heard it but have enjoyed all their other stuff.

I second (liquid100 ^^^) new Doves album Kingdom of Rust.

Edit: liquid1000 - sorry didn't mean to demote ya.

Chameleons @DavidB? Is that the same band that did 'Second Skin' in the 80s? I have their CD somewhere (Script Of The Bridge). Great tune if it was.

My faves at the moment are Bombay Bicycle Club's I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose, The Crib's Ignore the Ignorant and Passion Pit's Manners.

None of them are 'immediate' so allow a few listens

Really rate the new Alice In Chains album, Black gives way to Blue; not up there with Dirt but waaaay good

(& thanks Darrell for the heads-up on Porcupine Tree - didn't even know they had a new one out!)

robgarrioch- New alice in chains?.....how?........ surely it'll just be jerry cantrell and add ons sounding like all his solo stuff seeing as the key sound of alice in chains was layne staley's smak tinged voice and he's been pushing up daisies for years.

Mad season was a truly great project though such a shame he was weak junky C**t

No one sounded like Layne. An incredible talent wasted. This has got me listening to Jar Of Flies/SAP again.

Granted, Layne Staley can't be replaced - 'Junkhead' is my joint favourite song ever, mainly due to the vocals (tied with New Millenium Cyanide Christ, if anyone's interested), & I listened to Dirt pretty much constantly through 4th year at Uni...
However, I'm impressed by the new album - good deep guitars, major chords slightly off-key sound that marked a lot of the Dirt era sound. + when I heard the new vocals, a shiver literally ran up my spine 'cos the guy sounded like Staley...
