If you're not too offended by electro - then try the Ladyhawke album (I know some people who really really don't like it' but i think it's ace)

Doves? new album out

Pj Harvey?

fontmoss, you need to get onto Last.fm or something similar. Type in the name of a favourite band and it'll recommend similar ones. Or there are internet radio stations out there like Resonance and WFMU that play a wide range of stuff.

if you like radiohead and the suchlike then you will love anything by Marillion from the past few years. "Happiness is the road" is their latest and its brilliant

just bought the cd of "on the beach" by neil young. had it on vinyl for many years, one of his best

The new Doves album is out today. Thats an obvious one. I'm off out to get it shortly. Then buy all the other Doves albums. All genius!

got hold of ladyhawke last year (in my last decent music raid) and love it, great album. havent listened to doves in a while or little man tate

ill check out the others too, im not a fan of the genius bar/recommendations thingies. snobbery or fear im not sure but i like to ask folk what they think-always brings up wider/stranger associations 😀

As per Mr Agreeable's suggestion, give Last.fm a go.

Recommendations-wise, have a look for tunes by Y'All Is Fantasy Island and Joe Gideon & The Shark.

Metric, Doves, Sunny Day Sets Fire, Stars, The Stills, The Shins, Black Mountain, Wolf Parade, Howling Bells, School of Seven Bells, The Acorn, The Dears, Death Cab For Cutie, Burial, Asobi Seksu, Fleet Foxes, Submarines, Andrew Bird, Arcade Fire, The Besnard Lakes...
I have bought albums by all the above in recent months, and enjoyed every one of them, they all come with a highly recommended label attached.

Is it true that 1 Marillion = 10 Trillion?

If you like radiohead, you'll hate muse...or is it just me? Try Marquee Moon by Television. It's an oldie, but sounds great.

Over the past couple of months, I've been replacing some old tapes with new & used CDs off Amazon. Can't go wrong for £1 - £3, specially if they're going straight on your laptop.

Recently I've been enjoying (again)

Collapsed Lung - Jackpot Goalie
RHCP - Uplift Mofo Party Plan
Sneaker Pimps - Becoming X
The Goats - Tricks of the Shade
Senser - Stacked Up

If you want to hear some truly outstanding fingerstyle guitar, from deep south blues to english ballads, get Martin Simpson - 'Prodigal Son' and /or 'Righteousness and Humidity'
