Decent photo prints up to A4
Not sure if it still holds true but a couple of years ago Epson inkjet were lragues ahead of the rest, something to do with their nozzle technology, I have a 1290 which is prob 5-6 years old but still prints brilliant photo's, and is A3 too
Canon IP6700. Our's produces prints much better than any photo shop we've been too. Great printer.
The thing you should be watching for with a photo printer is the price of the cartridges. You'll run through the black one really fast but when the printer costs 120 quid and a full set of cartridges cost about 60 quid (the ones they come with are usually only half full), you see where the money is made.
Luckily you can get the cartridges for lots of printers, very cheap in a big pack from places like amazon. I think I can get a full set for the 6700 for 12 quid from amazon and they work great.
Not my Epson one. I nearly threw the ****ing useless thing off the balcony this morning. 8 bits of card wasted before it started behaving itself. 👿
Oh, I'll add that using half decent glossy paper makes a big difference too.
love my epson printer/scanner thing. does very good photo prints on good paper and is wireless to boot. i doubt there's much between the manufacturers, look at cartridge costs (get one you can replace as many separate colours as possible) and make sure you gain a good understanding of how to faithfully recreate colours
Decent photo printers will use better ink than basic jobbies. Pigment inks are the best for longevity and durability. Trouble is they cost more. A decent A4 photo printer will go from about £250 up, I'd say. And A3 one probbly £400 and more.
Second the 'use decent paper' thing. My Epson (****ing bastard useless thing) works best with Epson papers, surprise surprise, although Ilford and others do decent stuff. You might need to be careful when choosing papers though; Ilford stuff doesn't dry quickly enough with my Epson, and smears. The Epson paper is manufactured to work with the specific Epson inks. Pain in the bloody arse.
TBh, unless you have loads of printing to do, you're better off getting a decent commercial printer to do stuff for you. A4 shouldn't cost more than a few quid for a good quality A4 print. Saves you the hassle of when Epson stop making a driver for their printer that will work when you upgrade your OS, forcing you to have to use an older OS partition (requiring restart of the bloody computer), just to get the poxy thing to do what you want it to don't talk to me about printers I've had enough.
Take a look at the Canon MP640 very cheap on Amazon
and its wireless too
CCImaging in Leeds; As Elfinsafety points out, printers are the world's most massive pain in the arse, and if there are real professionals just an FTP upload away, willing to do all that nasty stuff like making printers actually work, colour management, blah, blah, blah... Why not get them to do it instead?
You upload your files, they print your pics while you get on with having a life and NOT having to mollycoddle £500 worth of overpriced plastic and 'special' 11 tank cartridges making a noise and taking up lots of room on your desk.
You could go for a ride or something, or play with the kids...
(I haven't owned a printer in years, as you'd probably guessed. I get Mrs B to print text docs at work, and use CCImaging to print my photos.)
Belgianbob; I tell you, the bastard thing took me two hours to finally get a decent print out of it. Epson have updated the driver for the newer model, but ignored this one. Five hundred and fifty pounds I paid for this thing. Not to mention the £100 or so for a complete set of cartridges. Wish I'd never bothered, I tell you.
When it's worked, it's fantastic. It's just it is a soul-destroying process trying to get it to work propply.
No don't. I'm too upset now. 😥
As the others said just get em printed byt he professionals, its cheap as chips. I use my local snappy snaps and they give me good deals on bulk orders.
I bought this last week:
Its amazing for photos, and fast for docs.
