Been looking for some software to rip some of my DVD's to play on the netbook to keep the kids entertained on a plane flight. Would also like to convert to a suitable format for my android phone.

There seems to be a lot out there, but which one to choose? It doesn't have to be free. If it is really good then I'm happy to pay for a commercial product.

DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink to get them off the DVD.

DVD decrypter as mentioned above ( free from the net) and Nero 7 ( which has Nero recode on it).

My computer fettling skills have exponentially declined since uni, yet found this combo sooooo easy to use to rip DVDs (including episode DVDs such as number jacks...) into a format to play on my iPad (same reason as you).

the easiest thing to do, as you already own the dvd is download a version in the format you require.
