I've heard a couple of things about this before, but I've just gone to sign into ebay and its popped up. Now it wasn't there a few hours ago when I last logged in, I've not installed it deliberately.

Could it have been installed by a website/windows update legitimately? I'm a bit suspect seeing as its just appeared by itself...

Both my banks (HSBC and Alliance and Leicester) keep wanting me to download the thing, not done it and don't intend to. You sure it's not just a popup asking you to install it?

I use it and its set to open for specific sites. If you are unsure, uninstall it completely and re-install from a legit site.

I've got it on my PC and not had it interact with Ebay until yesterday when it popped up wanting to be helpful.

Maybe its been on my PC for longer than I realised then, think I will uninstall anyway. We use A&L so maybe it got installed by mistake. Definitely not an add, it came up and asked if I wanted to start using it for ebay. Thanks guys.

I've got a friend who works for HSBC and reckons rapport is very good and should be installed. Many customers are afraid of EXE's and rightly so, but this is supposed to be good and recommended.

its a proper hog of resources though. I installed it for a bit then binned it.

Yup - I installed it but it made my puter run like a dog so I got rid.

RedThunder > What does your friend do for HSBC? Are they in IT there?

I have a basic issue with Rapport. Try as I might, I cannot get a straight technical answer anywhere as to what it actually does. If you look on Trusteer's website, it's full of bold but wooly claims as to how it protects you in various ways and how your other security software is inadequate, but it doesn't really tell you what's going on. I'm not "afraid of EXEs," but I'm highly sceptical of Marketing-ese.

I downloaded it with HSBC and it was a nightmare, slowed the laptop right down.
It was quickly binned.
I don't see the point if you have adequate protection in place.

I'd think of it as the Tabasco Sauce spread between them...

I've installed it after Santander asked me to and after a bit of checking to make sure it's legit. But like Cougar I can't figure out what it's doing; I can't find any recognised security people who've looked into it in any detail and the "events" it claims to have captured don't make a lot of sense. It seems to be harmless at the moment but if it doesn't work properly then the way it's plugged into the browser and apparently opened up various communications channels to servers makes it another vector for nasty stuff getting into your PC. I'm keeping a close eye on it, any problems and it goes.
