I do like these vandalised UK billboards, some quite good stuff:

I don't, its very "cheap".

Why doesn't the person who vandalised this stand for Parliament with his ideas and see if they stand up to scrutiny.

Its always easier to boo from the cheap seats than be performing on the stage, and it's a free country, anyone can stand if they want.

Have to say I like the fact people care enough to challenge the status quo / authority.

There are some good ones all over Sheffield that have had the truth written on them.

Amusing, but only briefly so.

I like Ian Hislop, I think he is quick, accurate and amusing. But it's an easy job just sitting in the stalls and lobbing eggs at anyone in politics.

Not so easy to construct a credible alternative, though.

How is that 'good stuff'? It's desperately mediocre - David Cameron is a liar and a moron? - that's missing the cow's arse with the proverbial banjo.

Let see if you have the same views as me.

1. Racist - at least you know he does not like you and he is honest about it?

2. Liar - he simply makes thing up but reality is different.

3. Cheat - he knows the rules inside out and will bend it. You can't he can.

4. Hypocrite - he turn back on his words and worst case scenario he sells you off to the highest bidder without you knowing.

Of all the four it seems that you cannot defend against three of them because you have no idea if their words can be trusted. However, the one that is vile seems to be honest about his views so leaving you plenty of time to prepare.

What's your take?

😈

and it's a free country

Surely anyone can criticise as well or boo from the cheap seats?

And don't they just. But I'm fairly sure that criticising and booing won't change anything, something a little more constructive is generally required.

Unless of course you can give an example of improvement which occurred without anyone doing anything more constructive than criticising and booing ?

Standing for parliament is not particularly easy. You have to give a deposit (about £1000 IIRC), which you won't get back if you get sod all votes. If you stand as an independent you are hardly going to have the campaign budget to really compete, unless you are already well known.
The electoral system is largely designed to stifle grassroots democracy and consolidate the power of the establishment.
For many people, shouting from the cheap seats is the only credible option...

It takes far less effort for you to say that than it does to perform an act of creative vandalism.

Whoever did it is more politically engaged than you.

Why don't you get off you're arse and go deface some billboards?

That would be lovely - if Parliament was democratic. In reality unless you work your way up through the ranks of one of the main parties, you're very unlikely to become an MP. Then, if you do become a MP, you're reliant on your party whips, and in return you have to toe the party line.

So in reality the only ideas which get to be scrutinised in Parliament are ideas that are already approved of in Parliament.

Do you know Jujuuk68 personally then ?

And I'm not sure why you think it represents a political act. Even the message it conveys is rather dubious - you would be surprised by the support which the parties led by the racist, the liar, the cheat, and the hypocrite, receive. So those morons between them do actually represent quite a lot of people.

It's not really a political act/statement, it's just some smartarse comment by someone who has nothing to contribute. In the same way as if someone went on a thread and said "You are all talking a load bollocks" and said nothing constructive wouldn't be a political statement.

Although I guess you would probably claim that it was.

Do you vote for the Raving Monster Loony Party Spin ?

Got to agree with ernie there; it's a piece of piss to scribble on a poster, much more difficult to do something meaningful that actually helps people.

Plenty of meaningful stuff you can do which makes a real difference which doesn't involve standing for parliament (TBH relatively speaking that's actually a waste of time).

Anyway, you are all talking a load of bollocks.

It also does very little good as UKIP supporters won't be convinced he's a racist as he's a classic "I'm not a racist but [insert racist statement]" here, same for the rest really those who support them won't see the problems with theirs.

EU elections tend to get seen as unimportant to a lot of people and a great place for a protest vote.

This weeks question time was perfect example, you have Grant Shapps, and Chuka Umunna both of whom look completely untrustworthy making Nigel Farage and Caroline Lucas at least look like they believe their own words.

Surely the burden of legitimacy is for the ruling powers to justify. I do not a control over your life therefore I do not have to justify my actions. If you choose to be in a position of power you have to be answerable to those you have power over.

That does not mean we should ignore Cheats, Liars, Racists etc, what it should mean is that the people have the power to remove anyone like this. The reality is the modern democratic system is made to serve the interests of those in power not the 'ignorant herd'. It is only a small step but at least it is highlighting that there are no choices in the current system.

And just what would those who created that poster want? NFI. So what's the point?
And its the same above. No credible alternative presented really. Pointless thread.

If you choose to be in a position of power ....

So David Cameron "chose" to be Prime Minister ?

Why are we bothering to have a general election next year then, surely we only need to wait for whoever chooses to become Prime Minster and form the government ?

Costs money to stand, so it's not that free is it?

Thought this was going to be about Jeremy Clarkson.

Sick of seeing Farage everywhere, and some muppets thinking he is a normal working bloke like we are at work, he's not. Voted liberal last time to give them a chance as we had seen what the other two main parties had done, but that kind of back fired, and oddly I'm not disappointed with the outcome, a vote for Labour seemed like a vote to turn the whole of the UK into the Jeremy Kyle show, on benefits and laying about and the tories didn't seem interested in the little working man.

You're confusing an act you don't agree with for a non-political act. Criticism of politicians is a political act regardless of how it's delivered. Criticism is the life blood of politics and it's perfectly acceptable to draw attention to the faults of those in power without providing an alternative.

Of course conservatives like yourself are never going to agree with that.
