Looking at the Latok (Event) jacket to replace my Berghaus Mera Peak for hill walking and general use during sh1te weather. Any views or opinions?

Not got a Latok, but have a Demand jacket and various Rab stuff. Rab cuts their jackets a lot more 'athletically' than Berghaus, so if you aren't of...erm, 'trim build' then I'd possibly go a size up. Fit is great though and the eVent fabric will be more breathable than the performance shell in the Mera. I'd say it's definitely a good shout - all my Rab kit has worked brilliantly and stood up to a LOT of abuse.

My favourite fitting and performing hiking jacket ever, comfortable, great hood, very breathable.

However mine only lasted a year before leaking badly on the wear areas where the rucksack sat. Not talking about wetting out cos it needed proofing but actually allowing water through; stand in rain for 5 minutes and wet inside the coat.

If money no object then I would happily buy one every year and replace when knackered.

I love my latok alpine which i've had for 3 years or so, not a great deal of use with a back pack though, I can imagine they would wear quickly. Otherwise perfect, I'd buy another.

Not sure how big the saving is (if any) but I had an email from cotswold the other day with them on offer.

Mac, i've had my mera peak for 5 or 6 years and the style has changed somewhat. It still keeps the water out, although it doesn't run off it for long, despite cleaning with tech wash. As the OP mentioned, cotswold have the latok on offer.

Might be worth posting on UKClimbing as well, there will be a lot of people on there who've used them.

sounds about as robust as paclite then.

Not the most robust or warmest for year round walking TBH. I use one as a summer jacket. Wouldn't fancy it in the snow.
