[#13405995]

I am after a 10 / 12 piece quality handheld screwdriver set, ideally in a case.

Many look good in the shop and then are pretty crap when you use them.

So advice please to those who have found a good set.

My initial draw is to a Stanley Fat Max Set but mixed reviews , unless some people are not using then for what they are designed for!

I got a set of Halfords Pro screwdrivers free with some oil or something, a few years back. They are very good.

I've had a set of Wera insulated screwdrivers with interchangeable heads for over 10 years now.

They have been brilliant and come in a handy roll up case, that has the added bonus of being able to attcah to your belt.

Came here to say Wera, but that appears to be a theme.

I've got plenty of Wera and Wiha tools at home (and some facom at work) and they are usually very nice. But, the Halfords advance stuff really isn't far off their quality and is quite a bit more affordable. Got this set for the father in laws Christmas present a year or two ago which might be a little much for what you're after but should cover everything you might ever want.

https://www.halfords.com/tools/hand-tools/screwdrivers-and-hex-keys/halfords-advanced-50pc-screwdriver-set-628806.html

They do smaller sets as well but none that I've seen in case.

I have wera socket sets and spanners, but I don't think their screwdrivers are anything special and not worth the premium over other makes.

Just to be different, Bahco or Wurth Zebra.

I've got some Snap On stuff too but TBH I prefer the Bahco and Wurth. I've had good experiences with Teng too but not tried their screwdrivers

I’ve got a Halfords Pro set but if I was buying now it would be Wera. The Halfords stuff isn’t bad but it’s not in the same league as Wera.

Wera is about 3 times the price though.

Halfords screwdrivers for use as chisels, opening paint tins etc, Wera for actual screwdrivers

+1 for Wera Kraftform in whatever sizes you need.
They cost a bit more thank some but are excellent quality and last very well.

You never regret buying quality tools

I've got some of what I think are original Philips branded screwdrivers . They are superb

Wera are expensive but worth every penny

Out of interest, how many screwdrivers do you actually need?

That's some copywriter there.

I like my Teng ones- good shape handle, good fit, and you can stick another screwdriver through the hole in teh handle for extra torque (or while leaning on the driver to keep it placed in the screw). Not good for strikethrough though. The tips last forever unlike some.

I like the yellow wera you can take a hammer to. The green ones were slimmer though, tapered head on the yellow, straight shank to head on the green of that makes sense.

The yellows are also hexagonal so take a spanner for when it all gets a bit tight.

I've always found the Halfords ones to be quite brittle. Even using them as intended I've managed to snap the ends off several.

I use Wera at work. Laser tip Kraftform have lasted 7 years so far and they're starting to wear on the tips bit still going strong.

Wera always come recommended and they do strike a balance between price and performance.

As for best? Screwdrivers are a textile thing. The ones which feel the nicestvin your are probably the best. I've got some Sealey Pro which feel really good. They're not the same quality as Wera but not far off.

The Wiha sets that I've got have sort of soft handles which are quite pleasant to use.

I don't think you'll beat Wera for value but there are better out there.

Check Felo  screwdrivers - another German brand sometimes better value than the W*  ones

I've got a set of Vessel Megadora JIS screwdrivers, they're brilliant, either the screw comes undo or they snap the head of the screw off.

I love my Wera tools, particularly my VDE drivers and the exchangeable head regular screwdrivers that turned up in last year’s advent calendar . Except….

I think their interpretation of Pozidrive is a bit.

Erm..

shit

It’s too spindly, a pz2 feels like a 1, a 4 like a 3. They cam out of pozi chipboard screws like a Philips head in the hands of an apprentice, in the way that a cheap DeWalt multipack made in china, found at the till in screwfix bit would never ever dare do. Sure they might be 100% compliant to the spec but in reality screws are not. I’d never dare put one on my impact driver for fear of being sprayed in the face by shards of toolstation’s finest self drilling screws.

As an aside one of the most used bits of Wera kit I’ve owned over the years is this Wera tool check plus that now lives permanently in the top drawer of my Under desk cabinet, it been used to strip down washing machines, cookers, build umpteen ikea stuff, repair bikes, repair stuff on cars etc…etc.

Holy thread resurrection Batman:

Can anyone recommend a decent screwdriver set for smaller jobs e.g. changing G-Shock batteries, adjusting glasses, small screws on devices etc.?

I mean, I've just read an entire page of responses before getting to this thread resurrection, and I think the answer's pretty clear...

Although, on a related note: I'm after a socket set - I have a ratchet drive plus about 12 sockets, but want a more comprehensive set for screws/ hex keys plus more bolts. I'm just marvelling at £300 Wera socket sets and wondering if Wera is the recommendation for those too?

+20 for Wera

There might be other decent options or there, but why bother looking any further?

Halford's Pro are good, while not being too expensive.

Halfords Pro are great of the money. If you know someone with a Halford Trade Card you can usually get a really good price on the Pro range of tools.

Depends on drive size 3/8" and 1/2" Halfords Pro are really good quality for the money. I've got a 1/2" Halfords Socket Set and the stuff will outlive me. 1/4" there are lots of options, naturally the Wera stuff is really good - the little zyclops ratchets are fantastic and in that size not too expensive
