Going to a gig at Rock City in Nottingham tomorrow night. Hoping to get a couple of recommendations for good pub / bar recommendations near there for pre / post gig drinks.

What type of pubs / bars are you after?

Some good real ale boozers on the way up from the train station - Vat and Fiddle, Fellows Morton and Clay, Canalhouse, Ye old trip, Malt Cross, and the Old Bell Inn on the market place.

Then in Hockley you have Six Barrels, Boilermaker (posh cocktail place), Bodega.

Not much near Rock City other than the sticky floor of Spanky Van Dykes...

Real / craft ale boozers please. We're staying in a hotel nearby but happy to venture towards the station if its not too far away

We're staying at the Premier Inn City Centre (Chapel Bar), so it looks like the Bell Inn should be handy. Are the places in Hockley open late?

Benman's pub suggestions are pretty much spot on. I'd definitely recommend Malt Cross and The Bell Inn. Lincolnshire Poacher on Mansfield Road is also a decent option.

Most of the places in Hockley will be open late

Junkyard opposite the Lace Market car park. Flippin brilliant.
Just around the corner from there is the Boiler Room (if you can find it) which is pretty good as well. Not exactly local to Rock City but only 10 min walk and worth it.

For a great real ale micro-pub try the Barrel Drop on Hurt's Yard (tiny alley off Upper Parliament Street)

Barrel drop for proper ale. Just around the corner from Pieminster - you're welcome.

If you're on Chapel Bar, the Hand and Heart is just up the hill. It's the less well known pub in caves in Nottingham, and it doesn't pull in all the tourists like the Trip does.
