50k ft up. Crikey. I've jumped from 12,500ft and that felt a very long way up..... Still, I suppose it's the last couple of inches that really matter....
[quote=kimbers ]bonkers hes not even 1/2 way and the view is already starship enterprise
🙄
That backdrop on the live feed isn't the outside view you know....
I hope he doesn't bottle out at the last minute.. 😕
I've been up to 58,500ft in Concorde and i can guarantee its a bloody long way up...
I wouldn't have fancied jumping and that's not even half way up for him!!!
Link down?
He prob deserves a few spectators!
yunki - MemberI hope he doesn't bottle out at the last minute..
I'm pretty sure there's only one way back down 🙂
Youtube link works.
Is it just me or is the feed streaming utter pish?
There's continuous coverage on n-tv if you have a sat box.
It's a bit like watching Apollo missions except it's in colour. Given the number of high divers I've seen end up in a spin or bellyflop from the high board I hope he gets the initial dive right.
elpais link above still ok
Should have had Warner commentating
"LOOK AT THE HEIGHT!"

I'm starting to feel a bit thirsty, could anyone recommend me a drink?

Something to perk you up a wee bit?
/first world problems
I want to output this at 1080p, but the stream keeps dropping. I would have thought all the money Redbull evidently has, they could have bought some better servers.
No face heating....
Oh dear.
Something to perk you up a wee bit?
That would be nice too.
No visor heat.... will he have to jumps early, and I note they've cut the sound. He complained about visor heat a while ago as well.
The capsule on n-tv is about 300m higher than the one on the Redbull livefeed.
Edit: to remove proof of my lack of observation skills
The capsule on n-tv is about 300m higher than the one on the Redbull livefeed.
No spoilers then 8)
Oxygen %age in the red zone...
Would anyone change places with Felix B. right now? I wouldn't, for sure!
right, I didn't really pay much attention in the rare times that I attended school, so could someone answer a question for me..
Is there even the slightest chance that instead of falling back to Earth, he'll like, be too far out to be effected by enough gravity, and like, maybe he'll go into orbit or something..? 😕
He will come down quicker than the share price of Glasgow Rangers.
Anyone know if this can be watched on the apple tv version of youtube?
...maybe he'll go into orbit or something..?
Also, known as the TJ Effect.
I was just wondering how far up you have to be before the Earth's gravity is no longer strong enough to pull him back...
I guess they've taken that into consideration!

😆
Yunki, he's not travelling fast enough, or going high enough to achieve orbit.
Feed keeps crashing...
i realised that wasnt a live feed after id posted 😳
Some folk will do anything to avoid watching the X factor with the wife.
The stream is on Redbull's YouTube Channel, so should be reachable.

@davidjones
Don't be a nob. Let's try and keep petty bickering, for once, out of STW thread.
is n-TV on sky? I can't find it so I'm guessing not
Don't be a nob.
Glupton1976 will appreciate the humour.
davidjones - I am watching it without any problems on my mac, just wondering if it's worth the hassle of telling the kids that their movie is going off....

The closest point at which you are no longer capable of being captured by Earths gravity would be the Earth-Moon L1 point - That's over 300,000km away 🙂
davidjones - I am watching it without any problems on my mac, just wondering if it's worth the hassle of telling the kids that their movie is going off....
While not quite on par with the moon landings, I think you should force the kids to watch a man jumping from 23 miles up.
Thanks druidh - no worries on that score today then!
As an aside, it's quite stunning that we have reached a stage where a fizzy drink maker is running an event to the edge of space.
CFH - Red Bull are a marketing company.
Jamie - they will be getting told to watch it later on.
[quote=CaptainFlashheart ]As an aside, it's quite stunning that we have reached a stage where a fizzy drink maker is running an event to the edge of space.
It's worse than that, we have a record label running trains, an airline, a TV network and a bank.....
Jamie - they will be getting told to watch it later on.
Apparently, a BBC/Nat Geo doc is being made at the same time. Broadcast going out in a few weeks

For a given value of "running" 😉
Stream FUBAR'd ? Is for me on youtube + the direct site.

No glitches here.
Watching on YouTube and streaming to my Apple TV and its working fine here.

Working with a delay
What do you mean by marketing company? do you mean they market their own product(s)?
Love stuff like this, its people like this who got us to the moon.
Just think, if we stopped fighting amongst each other and worked together, we'd probably have reached Jupiter by now
Has anyone managed to watch this on apple tv via iPad?
Worst apple product ever.
30,000ft to go...
Zippykona - that's exactly how I'm watching it, get it on the iPad screen and then stream to ATV.
On my ipad it took ages to connect and the quality was crap.
On the Macbook it all works perfectly.
Not the most exciting thing I've ever watched but that'll change in a bit when he gets high enough
I want to know what happens if you hit that red knob, on the right hand side, of his launch pad???
Watching on laptop but this is exactly the thing we bought apple tv for.
Whenever I enlarge the iPad picture a fault sign comes up aaaargh.

aahhh... so he's a great big wuss then.. 🙄
What time's X-factor on..?
On the sports channel in Spain. They'll probably go for an ad break just as he jumps.
I had snags the first couple of times but its been running without fault since launch.
Boba Fatt - MemberJust think, if we stopped fighting amongst each other and worked together, we'd probably have reached Jupiter by now
And then the radiation around Jupiter would have killed us instead! We should have worked together to get to Mars, and maybe we will after the discoveries Curiosity Rover is starting to make.
Its fairly certain Mars was warmer and wetter in the past, which means life was/is a distinct possibility.
nice view at the minute from up there
Well, he's above Kittinger's height now...!
i'd love to see what his heart rate is
Thought my wife was trying to make iPad work for me...
She's looking at effing curtains
As the commentator didn't manage to tell us, the Manned Balloon Flight altitude record is 113,740 feet.
So,is he aiming for 120k to jump?
Yep, but apparently the balloon usually goes higher, so it could be as much as 130k
LESS BALLOON, MORE SPACE!
This is amazing to watch!
Just think, if we stopped fighting amongst each other and worked together, we'd probably have reached Jupiter by now
Nah. Competition/strife fuels advancement.
Streaming from YouTube on the iPad to the television here - couple of glitches, but only with the feed, I think.
By the way, have we mentioned the fact that it was 62 years ago today that Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier in the Bell X-1? Well, officially, anyway - it has been suggested that diving aircraft in WWII got there first. It's just that either no-one survived to tell the tale or they couldn't prove it...
Also, what happens to the capsule after he's jumped?
Also, what happens to the capsule after he's jumped?
It returns to earth.
I wish they'd stop cutting out the communication. This whole faceplate thing is adding another dimension altogether and it would be interesting to hear some of the background stuff.
[quote=JulianA said]

It's got its own parachute system to bring it back down to Earth.

Just mentioned it!
This makes F1 look exciting.
@dj15 - I thought it must do. They would hardly build a capsule for each jump, I supposed...
Does the balloon have a dump valve so that he can descend to a safe altitude to jump if the faceplate thing is insurmountable?
I reckon he's jump, face issue or not.
Auto opening parachute, etc.
It'll clear up as he dives! 🙂
I reckon he's jump, face issue or not.
Agreed/
