I know quite a few on here have an interest in that period of history.

Caught a great interview on 5Live's Adrian Chiles (yes, I know) with a veteran. Lied about his age at 16 to join up, saw action on D-day, Pegasus Bridge, Battle of the Bulge, Operation Varsity and was briefly at Bergen Belsen. Then ended up peace keeping in Palestine, before a career in psychiatric nursing.

Amazing, humble guy.

It will be on the iPlayer for those unencumbered by smartphone apathy to find a link.

Adrian Chiles (yes, I know)

I think Adrian Chiles is a good interviewer on the radio, obviously not in the same league as Peter Allen, who he shares the slot with, but few are.

I just happened to wander into the kitchen when it started and listened to the whole thing. After the first few stories, Chiles would say..."So that was it then...no more action?" "Well, then I..." Indeed...it was very entertaining.
