Bathroom basin waste is making slightly. It's often been problematic. There's not much room behind the pedestal, or between the basin and bath or loo either side but I can't see/feel any burrs on the water pipe. Nor can a see any damage to the u-bend fitting. However if I remove the u-bend to give it a clean/unblock it's often a right game to get it just so, else it seeps as it attaches to the pipe. This time I did a bit of pre-emptive unblocking with a bit of lye based drain cleaner and since it's been seeping. It's assembled right, nut on pipe, slip washer, tapered rubber seal ring with taper pointing into u bend, nut done up firmly by hand.
I'm thinking maybe just buy a new ubend at hope that works but before I do, is it worth trying a few wraps of PTFE over the rubber seal? Or something else?
Could possibly be the seal between the waste and the basin in the sink itself, allowing water down the outside of the waste.
Can you see where the leak starts with a camera?
In true STW recommend what you have, a small child's beach bucket under the bit that drips has worked wonders for about 8 years. It's as much of my bed time routine as cleaning my teeth (it doesn't fill a bucket per day obvs, but doing it every night means I don't forget)
Interested to see what the proper solution is. Plumber's Mait is an option, I guess.
That is a possibility which I can't rule out. Slow leaks and awkward spaces.... diagnostic nightmare! Feeling around though, I think it's only the underside of the outlet pipe that is wet.
It's not just me then.
For the moment I too have a small pot positioned to catch the drops.
I wondered about plumbers mate, but its not really meant for plastic waste pipe is it....I imagine it would work well but be a pain next time I had to remove the u bend to clear a blockage.
Not all pipe fittings are created equal so you could sort it with a new trap, I had the same problem once in a house I renovated.
McAlpine ones are generally good
Pop up waste? They can leak where the rod joins the waste fitting.
Failing that get a McAlpine trap.
No it's one of those 'stuck disc' plugs.
I reckon I'll see if I can get a bit of tape on the rubber seal, failing that, I'll buy another trap. Either way, I'll buy a new trap when next near b and q
