We will be in touch
I am currently consulting at a company that uses Pro E to create 3D models of their equipment. I would like to take these models and manipulate them, however the company are reluctant to pay for a Pro E license for a consultant. Do any of you fine people know how i could possibly manipulate Pro E files using an alternative piece of software
No, they can get the edrawings plug in and export e-drawings files which you can use to manipulate / section / measure etc
But if you need to do anything to the actual models then they will have to get you a license.
What are you trying to do ?
I am trying to move components away from the model etc to show internal workings of the equipment in 3d
Exploded view sort of stuff?
Think you might be stuck without Pro/E.
Yeah exploded views etc..
A quick Google does bring up some viewers that might work for what you want....

But the software vendor for the company should be able to tell them if there is a viewer available that will do what you require.
I think e-drawings is a Solidworks tool, not Pro/E....?
I think you can open and manipulate PRO-E models in SolidEdge if you have that or access to that.
that is very strange from the company.. how do they expect you to do the work without the tools? asking on a forum and googling??
strange..
edit: sorry not very useful... can they export it to STEP or IGES? you can then open that with whatever software they will pay for
Very strange. When we employ contractors it's a given that we provide a PC and CAD seat on it.
Yep if I have to supply my own seat of software and Machine to run it on the rate is double 😀
Edrawings is a solidworks product, but there is a plug in available for Pro-E / Creo that allows you to convert pro-e models into Edrawings.
You wont be able to create exploded views though, you can show and hide stuff, cut sections etc.
Sounds like the person who has tasked you with the job doesn't fully understand the implications of what they are requesting.
Back when I worked at a company that used Pro-E we used to export all our drawings in PDF, DWG and e-drawing format so we could give subbies whatever they needed to make the parts, e-drawings were good as it bundled the drawing sheet up with the model in a single file, and you could interrogate the model directly...
When you say you need to "manipulate" the model OP do you mean take a copy and actually edit it? or just poke about and understand the geometry/assembly? because an e-drawing should allow the later...

What software are you used to using j5kol?
