The portable plug in versions....
Given that they simply facilitate the transfer of data via the mains, is there any reason why I shouldn't mix and match adaptors? I have a pair at home which cost about £60 the pair. I need one more and have found that TP Link sell singles at about £17 a pop.
So, different brand/product but with the same function. Will it work?
funny you should mention them, just installed a set at home half an hour ago. WOrked out of the box and the wireless one is working a treat too.
I think the hardware is made by one manufacturer and just gets rebranded to I think you should be all right...
I wouldn't risk it unless the manufacturers or sellers definitely say it will work. That way at least if it doesn't work you can return them more easily.
I have a couple of sets of Solwise ones, and you can't just mix and match the different speeds ones, not even from the same manufacturer. The "1000 mpbs" Solwise ones don't work well with the "200mbps" Solwise ones, for example.
If you know it's definitely exactly the same electronics in the box, though, I suppose it might be worth trying it.

I've mixed old (white) and new (black) comtrend adaptors with no problems, but I think the only change was to the colour/style of the casing.
The adapters have a security key - when you buy a pair they are factory set to the same key so they work together out of the box. Adding another means you have to set the key of adapters 3+4 to be the same as 1+2.
