I have just brought a house and when trying to plumb in the dishwasher we found this below the sink - Any idea what will fit on to the thread under the tape as I haven't found anything yet with the same thread size. It has clearly been botched by the previous owners as they just taped over the hole to block it.

Thanks!!

Prob best just to replace the waste connection to the sink. Easy enough to do with a screwdriver or socket for the top and a pair of grips for the trap nut.

Or some thing similar.

Isn't the sink over flow supposed to connect to that? You shouldn't need the T connector you have before the U bend.

That blanking cap is a compression fit to go onto pipe. I bet you have a thread under that tape so it won't work.

What you probably need is the barb fitting, nut and probably o-ring that come with something like this: https://www.bes.co.uk/products/123.asp?kw=11190&ref=googlebase&gclid=Cj0KEQiA7K7CBRCrwt26v5uHs98BEiQA0JzsZ_Gy6MKhlViHuZQv4oAyZovt2Sp0PE6Zh75l_1oQgc0aAvi18P8HAQ#11190

This might do it: http://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-hose-connector/48625

edit ^ that looks took big thread diameter actually.

One concern is the silver the sink fitting might not be exactly to standards. Looks like one you get from ikea or b&q etc. It's not under any real pressure so should be workable with plenty of tape if it's not quite right.

The over flow is the small pipe that goes in to the t connector.
So reading the comments above I'm guessing just replacing the waste connection could be the way forward? Is it easy enough to do?

Thanks

yeah should be easy enough. Measure all the diameters or take it with you to the shop.

the overflow should be in that - its actually connected to a washing machine drain connector in the pic.

Looks like it might be a non standard fitting - IKEA kitchen? simply replacing the waste trap is probably best( the bit in grey)

You may want to also lag the cold water pipe that goes through the wall, presumably to your outside tap. Your pic above suggests to me that you have condensation dripping from it. Or they're blobs of excess solder...?

Thanks all - ended up replacing the waste connection. Less than a tenner and easily done 😀
