Anyone used wjd-repairs for games console repairs? Their feedback on Ebay is excellent but some persoanl recomendadtion would be better.

Its for ylod repair and they're charging £25 plus postage which is a very good price.

That is a good price in comparison to most. I don't know the company but I suspect all they will do is put a heat gun to the cpu and gpu. I managed to fix mine myself with a hair-dryer. I wrapped the main PCB in towels and put a hair dryer pointing in. it gets surprisingly hot. Then leave it to cool - don't touch it! then I resembled and it worked. It would probably work without actually taking it apart. I then sold it as I heard that they don't last long after it. If I were you I would go with the company if they can offer a guarantee of it working for a while

I thought the hair dryer trick was a falacy as I don't understand how it can get hot enough to melt the solder. Think it's a 30 gaurentee.

For that money I'd give it a go! How far out of warranty by the way? Mine was out as well but dedicated daily moaning to Sony eventually got them to offer up a free refurb. There were no deals on new consoles at that time so a refurb from Sony at 135 quid was the only option.

I know a few people who have done the heat gun repair trick, not one of them has lasted more than a couple of months. out of the 3 consoles 1 was able to be bodged twice the others all failed at the second time.

It may be worth it for a short term fix but don't concider it a long term solution.

Gary M

Not sure if this helps at all but this is the thread I posted some time ago. Different issues though I think

I've found a place in Glasgow that does the repair with a 3 month warranty for £65. By the time I add postage to the ebay place it will be about £45 anyway with a 30 day warranty so it'll be less hassle to go somewhere close.

There is a place near me called imaginatively "console fixers" .co.uk

They are pretty good and will repair YLOD for about £30 (plus post).

THey did mine recently, but it only lasted for about 8 months before going again........they have quoted £20 for a reflow (they do it with a proper machine, rather than a hairdryer).

Apparently you can only reflow a PS3 3 times, then you have to do a re-ball ie take the chip off and re-solder it in. This apparently has a risk of breaking the chip, but would make it good as new and likely to last longer.

Apparently the overheating issue affects new slim ones as well as the older Phat ones.

I would recommentd consolefixers from Denholme!

Hope this helps
Al.
