Before I embark on any pilates classes, I think some basic grounding would be useful.
What, if any, exercises do you go through that make a real difference?
Tailored for biking too if revent.
Thanks
I got the DVD 'Pilates for Dummies' which I thought was excellent and have 'graduated' on to 'Pilates for Men' with Lindsey Jackson DVD
Very good indeed
I've been doing Pilates for 3 years and found that most of the core strengthening exercises, altho' difficult, have been brilliant for stability on bikes and the leg ones (skiing legs warm up) are awesome and make you think your legs are going to drop off! And the exercises for the trapezius are great for prevention of aches and pains post ride. You gotta go to classes for at least 6 months tho, it's no quick fix.
It is a whole body / core thing and I'd not recommend tailoring it to one sport. It is good overall regardless of the sport. Get pilate-ing!
Give it three months and you'll be amazed. You have no choice but to start slowly though 😉
Wot's been said - give it a few months to get a good grasp of engaging muscles and getting breathing right (tho' equally you may get it pretty quickly)
Not sure I've ever found anything especially relevant, biking wise, more that it's a good complement to just doing weights or any other training.
I've always had pretty decent core strength/flexibility but it's definitely improved with Pilates - I've been doing it for something like 7 or 8 years now. There's always a more challenging version of any particular exercise, anyone that says it doesn't do much, really isn't trying 😉
