Thanks mate and yes I agree, I feel very happy with the results. Just back from the jollys and had a few rolls of film waiting for me. Always exciting. The addition of Medium Format film is really working for me and I'm really happy with the results and how it's changing my approach.

Hmm let me think about that. To be honest while I am won over by the virtues of MF film, it also throws the incredibly versatility of digital into very sharp (pun intended) relief, not least is the huge limitation of ISO sensitivity. I think nothing of shooting at 3200 or even 6400 on the A7rII where as with the 'blad, 800 would be the max and 400 the norm.

Good to see you shooting film GT, great colours. Is that a leak on the first one? Are you processing them at home or a lab? Who is good in the UK these days?

A local photographer gave me a tip, though whether you can do it on a Hasselblad I don't know. It's worked on my 60s Leica M.

If you're out shooting 800iso and running out of light, open the camera (in a changing bag obv) and put a sticky label on the current frame. Shoot the rest of the roll pushed a stop or two then when processing, you can cut the film at the label and process the two strips accordingly.

Or just reach for the digital when it goes dark 😆

Yes, that is a light leak. I had suspected that one of the film backs had an issue but needed to confirm which one. I didn't know that you can check them just by holding the edge of the cannister up to a strong light with the magazine removed. I really like this image in particular and am glad that while visible, the light leak is not imposing on the subjects.

I send the films off for processing and scanning. I just don't have the time to do either and apparently scanning is a real ball ache and difficult to do well even with a good scanner (which would run you between £600 and £1700 so I've been told.)

I had another very brief flirtation with 35mm film about a year ago and got very mixed results from the labs I sent the films to. I think there are a number of places in the UK that still process films well and the one I've found that I like is Peak Imaging, based in Sheffield. They have a freepost service and whenever you get film back, you get a very natty flat pack box that holds five rolls of 120 very neatly. It's not cheap mind; process and scan only (no prints) to a decent resolution is £15.95 a roll but they are about the same as other places I've found so far.

To be honest though I've only processed about a dozen rolls. (Polaris) Andy would be far more knowledgable than me about this.

yeah it's the scanning that's the dear bit; I pay about 10 quid a roll here (Spain) of which about 7.50 is scanning, so usually do it all at home (both B&W and C41), and a local chap does the enlargements. Though I wrecked three rolls recently, two of which weren't mine, so I'm sticking with the lab for a while yet!

I bought a cheap (?!) scanner which pretty much does me for putting stuff on Insta, but if I ever get a shot which absolutely has to be drum scanned I'd be more than happy to pay for it. If only...

re film processing and scanning, I have pretty much always used Peak Imaging for colour, but getting them to scan would make the whole thing too expensive.
I use an epson V600 flat bed scanner and just turn all the settings off.
seems to work ok but scanning is said to be a dark art..
I see V600's on eBay for £150+, so what would that be GT, 20 films and then it's paid for itself?

Might be worth looking at.

My compact (Sony RX100) died and finally got replaced (Pentax MX-1)

It shouldn't make sense - I've replaced the Sony with not only a bulkier camera yet also one with a smaller sensor. But (and it's a big old but) - it takes lovely pics, is sturdy-feeling and the operation is a dream by comparison. Not a 'great' pic but I was happy to catch a tiny hoverfly in focus. The metallic/pearlescent colours of these often-overlooked little insects are revealed to be quite stunning:

To be fair to people like Polaris Andy there's always been a regular posting of analogue made images on this thread. I never truly appreciated the skill of his work until I started to shoot film myself.

Kit - love the portrait. Only thing I'd have done is to crop slightly tighter on the left so the same amount of each model's nose is in the frame. Stand out shot though - really holds your attention 🙂
