This may well have been done before (particularly with people heading off to the Alps) but I want a PAYG SIM card to sling into my phone while I'm on holiday in France. It will be almost exculsively for data - I'm not fussed about paying a few pence more for the handful of calls/texts but I don't want to be butt-raped for email, checking weather etc.
Ideally I'd like to buy it and register it here before I go and it needs to be easy for a simpleton to top-up - I always have contract (or Virgin direct debit) phones so I have never actually PAYG.
Any recommendations?
Just buy one in a shop when you're over there or hunt on Ebay - there are people who sell them. From my experience in Portugal, you can normally top them up over the internet (they let you connect to their top up page when your credit has run out).
You can do this in most countries but for some reason it's a bit tricky in France. I think this is still the case but things might have changed. Your best option might be speaking to your UK provider and see if they do any roaming deals.
I looked into this, there is a company that will provide a pre payed sim(cant remeber the name but google will find it :-), I think it was nearly £50 tho for a gig or 2...I believe in France to buy as PAYG sim you have to have a french bank account etc, so its not like here where u just pick a sim up, so i didnt bother in the end
