a mate of mine sold an item for me on ebay he sent me the address to post the item but he says that the buyer has put the payment on hold till he gets the item, didnt know this could be done is this true or am a being spun a line?

Eh? What retailer would wait until their customers got the order before charging them? No payment, no item.

Exactly. Its not browse then return either its an auction ffs.

are you sure he actually put it on hold? sometimes depending on the payment method (paypal has more than one way to accept money from a buyer to send to the seller) it can sometimes take upto 5 days for the payment to clear, just like a cheque. Thats probably whats happened.

Then I really dont see the benefits of using Paypal as a seller at all.

convenience for the buyer? so more likely to sell or attract more bidders.

As with all these things if you dont like it dont use it, or eBay since you are required to use paypal with eBay. Its not like there arnt any alternative auction site or forums with classifieds *cough>>>* but as always eBay usually attracts the high prices so people will use and then complain when they have to follow the terms and conditions ;0)
