We’re replacing a double patio door. It’s south facing so the room heats up like a greenhouse in summer and therefore we’re going to spec tinted glass.

The glazing company offers grey or bronze tinted glass. Is there any difference? How noticeable will the colour be?

Wife wants grey but I’m worried it might make everything inside seem a bit drab, and I’m edging towards bronze

Not sure about coloured glass but you need a heat resistant gas between the glass. I can't remember what's best but it's something like argon and it stops heat transfer better than air.

I thought you could get clever heat reflecting glass rather than an actual tint. At work we have cheap mirror film on a lot of the windows, you can't really tell from inside unless you open the window and realise its a bit sunnier outside.

You can get clear versions of Solar Control/ Low emissivity glass which is what I'd be looking for assuming they have the required performance.
A quick look on the Pilkington website suggests they would.

The Pilkington website is really helpful, thanks

Quite a range options though, not sure what ‘g’ value I’d want!

Interestingly the place who’ve quoted for the tinted glass are listed as a Pilkington supplier.
