Anyone else have this issue and more to the point know how to fix it. Basically if i try and start the again after a drive it just won't and i have to sit and wait compounded by the fact that it seems to stall really easily (a seperate issue!)
I know from VW forums it's a common fault but no one seems to know how to fix it.

Forgive me but is it petrol or diesel?
If itsdiesel check and make sure thatthe air bleed bolt on the top of the fuel filter is done up and not allowing air to be sucked in to the fuel system.
If its petrol and you have checked the coil out (when they heat up the wax or oil that is sat around them allows them to short internally) or failing that rotor arms can develop similar issues when heated.
Or just plain old heat induced fuel shortage-check all the fuel lines are away from heat sources and that (if its good old carburetor) the float isnt sinking or the fuel boiling off in the float chamber.
my guess is it's a diesel
it's a known fault on post 2004 vw group engines, the heated plug tept sensor think the cylinder temp is hot enought to not bring on the heater plug so the car takes a few turns to get it started, particularily noticable if you pull off the motorway on a long run to refuel?
The reason that I mentioned the diesel air purge bolt on top of thr fuel filter was because it gave me similar symptoms with stalling on start up too. I had not fully tightened it after service but appeared to be finger tight but was still sucking in air.
water temp sensor allways a problem on older vw/audi group cars.
my vw passat v6 gave me grief untill i found it had two water temp
sensors.
fitted a new one ran like a dream.
you could do with finding someone with vag.com software and lead
to pinpoint the problem.
thanks guys, yes it's a diesel and was hooked up to software on tuesday but it doesn't show anything up.
The heater plug, is that the coil?
it should not be heater plugs if your having problems from
hot.
realy sounds like water temp sensor.
i gather it starts fine from cold.
