OK oh dear thanks to Grum hear goes, looking at a camera thats
not a compact and dont want the weight of a DSLR.
I have seen your delights on the Panasonic GF1 But as this is new
maybe wait a year being its going to be popular and bound to get
cheaper and better, and more makers be using this.

I know one can change the lens and one you cant but the Cannon does have
a very good lens.

I Have had my eye on the Cannon G11 and I know they have reduced the Mega pixel to give better light in the lens for low level shooting.

What are you thoughts with these two cameras!

i bought a canon sx1 and have been blown away by the ease of use and picture quality. loads of zoom on it too. personally i didn't see the appeal of the g series but then maybe you're looking at it from a different point of view.

If your looking at G11 might as well get a S90, as i'm led to beleive they are most similar.

i'm looking at the GF1 also - seems like it might be the best all-rounder of the (limited) crop.

(sorry, I realise me saying 'yeah I want one' is adding SFA!)

Hi JPcapel thanks for the offer but just got back from Physio
One thing is I see alot being offered from Hong Kong on e-bay
Dont think il buy from Hong Kong.

Any reason why the Panasonic 20mm pancake is more dearer than
there 14-45mm lens?

Yes it is a brilliant lens from what reviews say. Also I think Panasonic knows exactly what they are doing. The 20mm has the appeal of making the camera about as pocketable as it can possibly get and that sells even at a premium.

Shutter lag long compared to an SLR (but good compared to a compact)

eeeek 🙁 I suppose this is down to the contrast detect focussing ? Otherwise it seems inexcusable!

Yawn. It isn't a (D)SLR. It's a camera that fits in a jacket pocket.

Any camara has limitations. A photographer quickly learns what they are and works with them. Having used a G7 G9 G10 I can say the GF1 is streets ahead of those.

A camera able of taking an action cover shot. 😉

but is the reason for the slow shutter the focussing or because they couldn't be arsed ? Can it be avoided by manual focussing ?

Don't know that much about the G11 but you already know my thoughts on the GF1.

G11 is obviously quite a bit cheaper and comes with zoom as standard - much smaller sensor though I think and it's just nowhere near as sexy. 😆

Shutter seems plenty fast to me.

Wtf relevance has your partial quote from what I wrote got to do with your statement below it?

Slow shutter 1/4000 ?

Slow focussing, never noticed such a thing. I can find fault with a 5dMk2 for servo focussing if I must. Yet as I said previously know your camera.

If it was shit I'd have put it the GF1 on ebay within the week, which is exactly what I did with my G9.

my original quote from the dpreview article mentions shutter lag ie the delay between pressing the button and the picture being taken.

If it was shit I'd have put it the GF1 on ebay within the week

I never said that - my point has been about it being overpriced (and possibly underperforming)

Simon, you spent most of that other thread going on about why the GF1 was rubbish, then you actually played with one and decided you want one. Now you are rubbishing it again.

You could start an argument in an empty room - it gets pretty tedious after a while.

I'm not saying it's rubbish, only that it doesn't deserve to be worshipped 🙂 One can like something but be critical of it at the same time

You could start an argument in an empty room

the whole point of an argument is communication and interaction...

OK LOL and thanks for all comments I have gone for the
Canon G11 for two reasons
1,I feel the four third will be a winner but I need
a view finder and missing is a pull out rear screen to compensate
for the loss of the veiw finder and feel the optional view finder
cost a con.

2, As the four third format is new, there will be a lot of updates
and soon be flooded, and at the moment I belive the Panasonic
and the Olympus to be approx £ 200 quid over priced and little basic
on functions regarding the cost at present.

Also at the G11 lowest ISO settings was very close to the quality of these
two, Four Third cameras, and this is where I normally shoot at.
The Canon G11 does have a smaller sensor but does have an on board
generator to improve the light by one stop.

As seen on cameralabs.com under results page.
So I will get the G11 and buy a four third camera next year and give me
daughter the G11 for her media studies.

I bought the Canon G11 for £ 330.00p

Thanks again Grum,Simon and all
