Hi all

I plan to paint my garage wall white to make it a little brighter. A Google suggests I should be using primers etc.
It doesn't need to be a great finish.
Can I just throw some trade white emulsion at it or should I be buying primer and a specific paint?
Any tips etc?
Thanks

As per standard STW others will be along to tell you I'm wrong but the last two garages I've painted I've just used whatever brilliant white emulsion. May depend what the internal surface is on your garage walls, mine were just bare breeze blocks. I was only looking to brighten up the garage.

+1 for slapping on some cheap white emulsion. If it’s breeze blocks you will go through a lot so get a big tub. I used a fence/decking brush just to help slop it into the holes better. Really did make a difference to how bright it was and made Zwifting in the garage far nicer.

I’ve just used wickes or screwfiz cheap trade white, with a mist coat first, especially on breeze blocks.

I used a big tub of masonry paint on mine, brick sized breeze blocks. Did 3 coats. It's flaking off after a year 👎 so don't do that! Should've primered it I guess, or used a different paint, I don't know, Still, if I don't touch it, it doesn't come off so it still looks alright from a distance!! 😄

I've got a mixture of bricks and breeze blocks and I just slapped loads of coats of cheap emulsion on with a roller and a masonry brush. Cheap, easy and still looks fine.

And yes it's much brighter.

If it is rough use a long nap roller.

Make sure it is clean before you begin. Dust, oil and salts particularly.

I've given up on the idea of painting mine, going to line it with plywood instead. Way more expensive, but I want it to look half nice. The breeze blocks in mine may as well be sponges, nothing I have applied has made them look nicer.

For blockwork I use contract matt to get it solid/flood out the holes and final coat of whatever your preferred choice is (masonry usually in my experience)

Way more expensive,

Just give it a light skim then paint it, far cheaper. It's tee garage, doesn't need to be perfect!
