About 8 last night my brother called to say that our nephew, who has been suffering from depression since February was missing. At 1.30 am i received another call to say he was dead. He had been found hanging near a canal locally. Nobody seems to know why. He was 21 years old studying art at Dundee. Whole life ahead of him. My Godson, the nicest most positive, pleasant lad you would ever meet. Our Chris
So sorry to hear that 🙁
Damn. Sorry for your trouble.
My god sorry mate. There aren't any words really.
That's terrible, my deepest sympathies to you and yours.
Gosh, that's dreadful. Poor lad.
Terrible. Best wishes. I think it can be surprising, the real inner turmoil and despair of someone of "normal" outward appearance and demeanour.
Hope he's at peace now, heartbreaking
That's truly terrible, my condolences. My impression is that he appears to have been very determined and didn't want to be stopped, sadly nothing can be done to prevent that sort a tragedy. Appalling at it is, it has to be accepted that this is the decision which he took. This is something which I had to come to term with after a very close friend took his life about a week after telling me that he would. I did my very best to talk to him but he was just determined. Sometimes we have to respect what someone does with what is after all their life. You, your brother, and all close to Chris, must and will be, totally devastated. I hope Chris's parents get the professional help and support they will undoubtedly need. I can't begin to imagine how a parent must feel losing a child.
Bugger. Feared the worse and not had it come true in the past so can only imagine how you feel. You have my sympathies.
That's shit 🙁
But otherwise, ernie has wise words which I would only echo. I hope his folks and those closest to him find a way to come to terms with it.
You have my sympathies speckledbob.
Thanks everyone. Ernie i think you are right. It seems inevitable that this would have happened. Despite being almost constantly watched over by his loving parents, an opportunity arose and he took it. I don't think they could have done any more.
He also leaves two sisters, 7 and 20, and a brother of 9. We are a close family and will offer his parents all the support we can. There's a bit of a gathering tonight and i'm sure there will be lots of drinking, laughing and crying. His mother has decided that she wants her family around her, so that is what we will do.
Thanks again.
His mother has decided that she wants her family around her
You can do no more than just being there for them. I've seen at close hand what this can do to a family - some find it very hard to recover. Recovery starts immediately with grieving and openness and taking away the fear of talking about it. The brother and sisters will need a lot of support as parent(s) will be doing their own agonising. All the best.
Peace to you and your whole family, speckledbob. You have my sincere sympathy.
Absolutely rotten news for your family and friends. I hope you all are able to support each other through it all.
Such tragic news. Even as someone who suffers from depression, I've never even considered suicide. I can't fathom what must go through someone's mind to believe that they are better dead than alive. But I think what is of comfort is that all their tremendous turmoil and anguish is now gone, and that they are in a better, happier place. My deepest sympathies to you and your family speckledbob.
RIP Chris.
Tragic news.
A work colleague on mine took his own life. Happy go lucky fella we never really figured out why.
Was there on friday gone on monday, its a very sad thing.
Christ, so sad. Very sorry for your loss
Deepest sympathy to you and your family at this terrible time
