Not for me, for my 11-year old son! He's just got a cheap basic one at the moment, but he's getting into it and starting to need/want a better one. I know nothing about skateboards so would welcome some help from people who do. He's still a novice so doesn't need anything too expensive but he wants something that's cool enough for his peers down at the skate-park. He's mentioned a make called 'Element' - anyone know if they're a decent brand? As you can tell, I am completely out of my depth here so any advice would be gratefully received!
Cheers, Stu

Try your local skate shop as many places do setup deals where you can get a decent deck, trucks and wheels for £50 - £70 or so. The decks are usually unbranded but will be of similar quality to the branded ones anyway, just without the name on.

My skate knowledge runs out after Hosoi Hammerheads and Vizion Gonz or Gators....

element do appear to sponsor some decent riders, and they make good shoes too.

rollersnakes do a good range of prebuilt boards, and they usually have a sale on.
I got my son one of their own brand boards about 18 months back, it's survived pretty well.

(Got loads of credibility with his mates when I got my 70's longboard out and bombed the miniramp on it :-))

Thanks for all the advise
rollersnakes have some good deals on pre built boards at the moment, think we might try to look up a good local shop and see if we can get him something suitable built up.
Many thanks

Stu

Element is a pretty good company, run by (or was) Andy Howell, skater from the late eighties and artist.

most boards are the same these days, pretty standard shape although the concave can be different between boards.

For coolness factor though i'd probably go for any of these:

for added cool factor steer clear of anything with Ryan Shekler or Tony Hawk written on it
