Given the number of threads about aeroplanes and conveyor belts, and RC helicopters on here, I thought this might be worth a punt

Through a long and convoluted process, I am on the hunt for an eight week placement / internship for a young Italian chap with excellent English, preferrably in Aerospace engineering and hopefully starting on the 21st of this month. Failing that, pretty much any computing / admin work within an engineering firm would be good.

He doesn't expect to be paid - he just wants the experience. He's pretty good at general IT duties and has an excellent working knowledge of; Microsoft Office, programming with C, Math lab + Solid Edge, Solid Works and Inventor (design and 3D model programmes apparently).

If you can help out, or know someone who might, please, please let me know ASAP. Email in profile. Thanks!

Try GE Aviation in Cheltenham - they take on lots of interns.

I'll ask a friend who's at BAE (been there for 30+ years since he was 16)

Cheers guys - I've just passed on all this info. Clubber that last email came through, thankyou very much! Xiphon and TT, please do ask - it's often through actual human beings, rather than departments and letters that young folk get a break - much appreciated.

alfabus - Thales just added to the list of possibles, thanks.

Certainly will clubber - it would be grand to see this chap with a well deserved placement - he's very keen and extremely able.

Westlands (Augusta Westlands), down here in Yeovil would be appropriate as they're Italian owned. I don't really know anyone there to ask myself though.
Marshalls have got naff all work on!

The problem will be getting him into anywhere that needs security clearance (like BAES/Westlands/MA), so a civvy company might be best - see if FRA/FRL (Cobham) can help.

Sorry didn't see the Marshalls chap today, think the rain must have put him off

Maybe try Marshalls directly, always seems busy there

Spoke to my mate at BAE, and his response was...

"BAE only accepts placements though the educational channels - so if he's doing this placement as part of an engineering degree (or related) as his Uni/College to contact BAE HR department. If he's not in education, it's incredibly unlikely to go anywhere."

Honeywell (also in Yeovil) may be able to help - being closely tied to Westlands, come to think of it, but security restrictions may not be quite so stringent.
