I've thought the exact same thing!
Seems to me to be optimized to make sure it takes as long as humanly possible for you to see the content you actually wanted to see, after the Singletrack banner, the buttons in the top left and then the Komoona whateveritis. Then, five minutes later half the posts load. Then the other half. And if you tap any links they don't work. Then, finally, you can tap on something and it works so you can get back to where you meant to be in the first place if you tapped something by accident.
Hideously unuseable, and I was nice about it when it first came out...
