Suggest me a starter that will go well with a belly pork main (slow-roasted with apples and cider).

something fresh and quite light i reckon.

mixed tomato, buffalo mozzerella and fresh basil salad with rock salt and freshly ground black pepper? Make sure you salt and drain the toms first to intensify the flavours and lose some of the liquid.

Something Fishy?

Mussels - Moules Mariniere is very easy and delicious.

Thai Fish cakes & salad. With a nice, spicy (but not too hot) sauce

Or how about a light soup (eg fennel, pea & mint or watercress?)

Yeah, surf and turf.

Seared scallops with a little black pudding and apple to carry a theme through.

Grilled mackerel with horseradish and watercress.

Tuna 'tartare' if you can get good fresh tuna.

Yossarian, you have made me happy.

We just choose our wedding lunch as pork/cabbage/roasts main and couldnt decide the starter. ended up choosing a rocket, tomato and mozzarella salad as we wanted something light

Nice.

I do mine in a little extra virgin olive oil, with some garlic added as well. Fry 'em up, then put the prawns, oil and all in a bowl. Fresh, crusty white bread to dunk in the oil as well.

Nommage.

what did you choose..?

I'm thinking that I'd quite like a gooseberry fool before bellypork.. but that's not very conventional..
so maybe a very light, lemony, white fish mousse with plenty of cucumber incorporated into it.. maybe some capers too
