So did anybody else watch the biathlon pursuit races yesterday? What a display of incompetence by the start officials - how can you make such a mess of it? I do wonder whether there's also some fundamental issue with the start procedure, as once they had got out of sync it seemed the athletes were getting started based just on the countdown clock, so they were getting sent out on somebody else's slot with no check on the number of the person being started. The funny thing in the mens race though is that Mike and Patrick were saying they hoped there wouldn't be a similar start problem to the womens race just as the official set somebody off early!
The other problem I've seen so far is some skiers taking the wrong course into the finish in the XC skiing - something which would have been easily stopped by having an official at the junction sending them the right way. Of course that's not to mention the luge issues - don't really want to rehash the safety debate, but starting the women from the junior start seemed to make a total horlicks of their event.
Of course they do get mistakes like this outside the Olympics, but it does seem to be worse in the most important competition for these sports - presumably because of relatively inexperienced organisors and officials.
Are there any more mess ups I've missed (and we're only on the 5th day!)?
presumably because of relatively inexperienced organisors and officials.
I doubt very much they are that nexperienced - these events are run by professional sports events organisers, and the officials shopuld at least be officially sanctioned by the relevant governing body and the IOC.
This isn't going to be remembered as a vintage Games....
Still, at least it softens things up for when it comes to the UK 🙂
