Should there be an age limit for people to ride off road, say over 42, as today there seemed to quite a few a lot older,a the older you get the more fragile you become and thus put a bigger strain on the soon to be privatised NHS,that we will all be forced to pay into.

I agree that there should be an age limit.

You should have to be 30 before you are allowed to go off-road on a bicycle as A&E seems to be full of young boys who have gone faster than their limited skills allow.

Should also be a minimum age for posting on internet say around 16 or so.

Nice replies, fellows. I'm guessing Project is about 10 years judging by the tone of his post! No offence mate.

Yep, get rid of older people offroad. Look at them! Stupid old duffers. Most of them are so confused they don't even know where they're going.

While we're banning them, I would suggest we also ban anyone under the age of 30 from driving a car, they are after all responsible for virtually all road accidents.

The thing is older people do not have any sort of fashion sence,or colour coordination, look at walkers, also they tend to be a bit on the fat and heavy side,so erode the trails a bit faster.

Cant see how there can be a ban, perhaps just realignment of their cycling, perhaps dedicated trails at trails centres,eg a grey trail.

Step aside Small Fry. Some of us were off-roading in the 50's & 60's and learnt how to ride properly on bikes made from bits from the local tip. We developed skills that would scare the s**t out of you, then when we busted the bike my Bro just built another one. AND I'm still going strong! Just slowed down a bit and making time to listen to the trees growing along the way. Probably at our age we have also worked our asses off to afford some decent kit now without busting the piggy bank.

Have you not realised the Surgeries are geting taken over by private companies, Pfi are building the new hospitals and surgeries, there are new private treatment centres coming into use, and choose and book is now available,so you can choose which hospital does your operation thus making them like the local supermarkets, all ready to be bought out by the insurance companies etc.

Says somebody who thinks showing his underpants is a style statement.

We'd need some sort of test to determine how old someone was. I mean, anyone can say they're young. I know, we can give people a spelling and punctuation test. If they fail then they're under 42. Brilliant!

Anyone who thinks you need to look fashionable on a bike probably looks a tit without realising it.

Your poo still yellow per chance?

Project, I wasn't absolutely clear from your original post if you were saying people should be under or over 42??

When I started to take MTBing a wee bit more seriously in the mid-nineties, I was really impressed when bumping into these surprisingly fit older guys riding my local trails.
High end bike, serious-looking kit, lean leg muscles, and the grey beard or moustache- y'know, the Ned Overend look.
I thought what a great sport to be involved in, that lets folk stay that fit and scary-looking for so long.

Project, are you Martian or just on glue (or some other mind bending influence) Now you could either A, think about going for a proper ride with some 'experienced' riders, or B, go to bed cos I think it's past your bed time.

Oh, & do a spell check you infant.

I know 50+ year olds who are freaking fast riders on or off road!

age? bah just work harder and rest more between rides.

Age=Knowledge.

OP-Don't put your own negative projections of what you will be like at 50 onto others who will kick butt at 50+.

😉

a bit on the fat and heavy side,so erode the trails a bit faster
Then again, we're so slow that skids are impossible

a bigger strain on the soon to be privatised NHS,that we will all be forced to pay into
Shirley, "when" they privatise the NHS we won't be subsidising each other any more ?

Yes, definitely - you should only be allowed to ride off road if you are over 42. Good idea Project.

Project, I was thirty-four when I bought my first mountain bike. That was in 1988, before most people evenknew what a mountain bike even ****in' was, and a long time before you were even born, little boy, so don't tell me what age I should be to ride a ****in' bike anywhere I damn well choose. Now get off to bed, your mummy will ground you if she finds out you're up playing on her computer.

The first pic, as grotesque and disturbing as it is, I can believe might be him, the second, however...

Can't be. No-one would have such a lack of dignity AND post it on the internet, surely? 😯

Thank f-~k I don't have to pretend to be hard anymore.43 an a bit! - so now that I am officially over the hill,I can sell the Bicycle shaped object. After umpteen broken bones my GP has decided that he will no longer treat an over the hill, post pubescent, delayed adolescent, prone to crashing old guy!
Guess that means that singletrack will have to close its doors then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My doctor said he'd rather treat an aging fit sporty person for a sports injury than a fat, old, couch potato duffer (the doctor may have phrased that more politely), as it actually costs the NHS less to treat us than the unfit types in the long run.

Signed; an experienced over 42 off roader, who is going to carry on ruining your trails for a long time to come.

Oh yes well said judy-rockshox.

Have you met Roland (oldfart), the retired postie?

[img] [/img]

He organises the forum rides on the Qs and Exmoor, but this year is will be working/riding in Whistler all season instead. (photo by P.Poddy I think)

I am 36 and can handle myself and the trail i am riding.I show most of the youngsters around here how to ride, some ask me "how too ride certain sections" , i will regret showing them in a few years when they woop me on the trails.

Just remember Steve Peat is the same age as me.
