Looking to get some new bedroom furniture and like the look of some of the stuff they have in oak furniture land. In the showroom it seems pretty good quality for the money. Anyone have any experience of them? Heard a couple of stories that are putting me off slightly.
Ta
We got a chest of drawers and a tallboy a few years ago, been fine.
Hard to get too excited about furniture that stores my grundles tbh
Yep. Got loads from there. The wife loves it. Bedroom stuff dining table TV unit etc. It is really well made. I had a break a large wardrobe apa
rt after we moved as we couldn't get it in. Loads of fixings holding this thing together. We would have sold it however 2 months in a new build garage meant it had got damp enough to cause it to swell so panels had warped and doors wouldn't close. We got a furniture specialist out to see if anything he could be done. He said no and that our garage was about as damp as a victoriana house which I would agree with. Therefore if you live in an older the property the tolerances ofl make their stuff to could cause it to warp...
As far as I know, they don't specify where the wood is sourced
So as long as you don't mind rainforests being destroyed...
Yes, all our bedroom furniture and our dining table all come from there, ours is about 8 years old now and never missed a beat!
Bought some stuff from them on eBay when they first started (as the container clearance company) which must be a good 10 yrs ago. Bought loads of other stuff off them since too
My mate got some lounge units the same time that I got some from from Barker and stonehouse.
Because the Oak furniture land don't use veneer the wood cant move much hence the swelling above.
Anyway my mates is utter rubbish compared to mine and he's not a happy bunny 😆

Are there many oak trees in the rain forest?
Got one of thier tables and a bed frame, it's very solid and suspect it'll last a lifetime (or till the Mrs gets bored of it) some of the fine details on them are a tiny bit rough and the bits you can't see (under the table for example) are unfinished - which is exactly how the antique oak stuff my parents have is. It's not as nice as the sort of stuff you see in John Lewis, but it's not far off ikea money.
One thing I wasn't so happy with, the ones in the shop look great, beautifully polished - but the ones you get when you buy them aren't nearly as nicely polished, they come with a big tin of beeswax, took me a morning to polish off the crap job the factory did of waxing it and redo it, but I love the smell so it wasn't too bad. You need to redo it every 6 months or so apparently, you can't just give it some pledge like veneered chip-board.
Native forests, how about that. Either way, what jools said. I believe they refuse to state the source of their wood which, in this day and age, is ludicrous.

Wouldn't go near em personally.
most of their furniture is engineered made from blocks or strips of timber, some matches quite well and some doesnt, larger panels especially.

I was kind of waiting for the resident smart arse
They won't specify where the wood is sourced. It's not from sustainable sources. The last investigation showed wood from somewhere in Russia.
Have a Google.
If you're OK with destroying the forests so you can have somewhere to rest your cup of tea, then go ahead.
Very poor quality control and customer service in my experience. Larger kitchen dresser ordered, arrives damaged. Courier refuses to take away. Policy requires technician visit thru customer services before any collection and replacement (2 separate couriers weeks apart). Several weeks before a replacement sorted, and guess what arrives damaged. Same script all over again. 3rd delivery before it was acceptable condition. 4 months of hassle. Wouldnt use again.
Plenty of oak trees amongst the temperate rainforests. eg the Atlantic oakwoods on the west coast of Scotland and Ireland. Are there many oak trees in the rain forest
I think they are like Edinburgh woolen mill that they have a minimum age requirement of 60.

But use a coaster or you will leave a ring
on the subject of responsibly sourced wood we looked a place in Bristol selling re-cycled Teak furniture and really liked it, especially where you could see signs of the woods previous life that had been filled with new bits. Hoping they still have the items we like when our new place is finished being built.
Funnily enough there is an OFL advert on TV now 😆
We spent a couple of grand with them about a year and a half ago on some mango wood furniture. Mostly good on delivery, barring some assembly niggles. A new table leg was sent to us reasonably quickly as the holes in one weren't lined up correctly.
The bed was taken to the dump a few weeks back in pieces that wouldn't reassemble, some of the other pieces are looking a bit sorry. The wood just seems to resize over time!
Research since seems to suggest they used to be great, but quality is not as good these days. I certainly wouldn't buy from there again.
Irresponsibly sourced wood is a disgusting business model. I don't have any knowledge of this company but hardwood from a legitimate responsible source is expensive.
We got an awesome oak table from a local place that uses reclaimed oak. Solid 7'x3' table, £600.
All recycled.
Apart from inherited stuff and beds, all out furniture has come from local auction houses. Spot something you like. Put in a reserve bid. Sometimes you get lucky.
Lovely chest of drawers and a hall cupboard the other day. £65 for both.
I get a bit bemused by their "no veneer in 'ere" advert, some of the finest pieces of furniture ever made use veneer ! 😕

What you need to do is build a shrine to your grundles, then get excited about that instead.
Indeed, engineered woods can also be stronger and far better for the environment.

Can you make furniture out of wood without cutting trees down?
Or is there a driftwood furniture land we can visit?
Furniture Barn do some good oak furniture, if there's one anywhere near you.
I've planted 2000 trees this year, for £50 I'll put a name tag on one to offset your furniture related angst.
Form an orderly queue with cheques made out in Panamanian Balboa.
They use a lot of pieces of timber laminated together to achieve solid wood at the prices they sell at - the back boards are normally finger jointed boards and legs are usually made up of a lot of laminations - flip a small table over and it should be pretty obvious from looking at the bottom of the legs.

Why didn't you take it back to them? An 18 month lifespan for a bed frame is not reasonable.
A different perspective.

It's about using sustainable forests. You knew that of course.

I should have done really, just needed a bed again quickly, didn't want a replacement from them, and couldn't be bothered to deal with them.
Had found out the GF was pregnant not long before, and had more important things to stress about 🙂

Damn, I was aiming for "medium sized hitter" status.

You can buy wood from managed forests, where the trees that are chopped down are replaced
Or is there a driftwood furniture land we can visit?
no because someone keeps burning it all 😉
Hoping that they will replace the one month old piece that came complete with resident woodworm!
I got my sofas from them, so far so good a year in.
Also about £50 cashback via Quidco
yeah we got 3 items, came on time and in tact. Very good quality, challenge you to get a discount I couldn't even get a free tub of wax unless I bought their insurance
