attempting to snyc my daughters ipod, simple enough, seems i can only sync by artist rather than pick individual albums....am I being thick or wot?

Either tick the box for "manually manage music" and drag albums to in itunes, or create a playlist, stick the albums you want on the playlist and sync that with the ipod.
