We will be in touch
Came out to my car yesterday to find a (new, it has many already) dent in the rear quarter panel, along with some fresh paint transfer, and chunks of my cars' paint missing.
I'm not bothered, the car is 23 years old and battered to buggery anyway and is up for sale on ebay at the moment so it's not great loss to me.
I am however mildly bemused at the note I found tucked under the wiper blade which reads:
"I hit you car, I had a look and couldn't see any damage, really sorry!"
a few thoughts spring to mind...
1. car was parked half way up a road, not on a corner or anything, the only way you could hit it would be by weaving/swerving while halfway up the road, doesn't fill me with confidence in their driving!
2. Are you blind!?! couldn't see any damage my arse, I spotted it from my front door across the other side of the road! If you really thgouht there was no damage then why leave a note?
3. If you really were sorry perhaps you'd have left your name/number?
Anyway, that's off my chest now, just can't quite see the logic of leaving a note but no contact details.
We had someone do something similar a few years ago to our van, loads of witnesses so the person pretended to write a note and left a blank bit of paper under out windscreen wiper - none of the witnesses took their registration because they had seen them "leaving their details"
There are no words for some people!
A half hearted note!
"I must write a note to say sorry...cant see any damage...this might be a den...I wont look at that dent...nope definitely haven't noticed that dent...and actually I don't want them to get in touch with me... There I've said sorry I feel better"
Just a half-hearted attempt to do the right thing, and failing...
Good reason to have an old car...
There's red paint on the rightside back corner of my car which appeared last week. If you look at one of my neighbours red cars, there's silver (the colour of my car) paint on the leftside rear. I assume they screwed up their parallel parking. No note, nothing.
If I had a new car, I'd be furious. Cos it's 10 year's old, I'll let it go.
and is up for sale on ebay at the moment so it's not great loss to me.
wasn't there some sort of scam involving damaging cars for sale on ebay and then offering to buy at a reduced rate?

maybe, but I seriously doubt that in this case!

I'm not going to turn this into a clandestine FS thread by posting a link, but if you could see it you'd know what I mean.
A mate once got a note on his damaged car that said "I bet all these people watching me write this note think I'm leaving my details. Sorry".
And that was it.
"I hit you car, I had a look and couldn't see any damage, really sorry!"
Translated as 'someone might have seen me hit your car so scribbling will hopefully allay their fears and they wont record my reg number'.
In Windermere I watched a woman in a 4x4 reverse HARD into the front of a oldish C class Merc denting/lifting/buckling the bonnet. I watched her get out, look behind, look at me watching her and hop in gingerly and drive off.
I went into a nearby shop pen and paper sought- wrote note and placed under wiper.
10mins later I went back and noted the note had been removed...funny I wonder by who?
So I wrote another.
Pretty crappy that this kind of thing happens though 🙁
I mean sure this time it was a battered old car and I don't care, but if it was someone's brand new pride and joy it'd be pretty infuriating.
Think hora has nailed it, "I'm leaving a note in case anyone is watching and denying damage to add plausible deniability just in case a witness gives you my details, byeeeeee."
Agreed with Hora
Easy way to get away from the scene if somebody had witnessed it.
