[Closed] Friday rush hour traffic – M62 / A1 / A168 will it be horrendous?

Got to get from Manchester to just north of Middlesboro with as little grief as possible this evening leaving at about 4:30 pm.

M62 to Leeds, A1 to Thirsk(ish), A168 to past Middlesboro.

On a clear run is should be about 2 hours but will I run into Carmageddon?

From Wetherby services, off at J49, A168, A19 bit should be fine at around 6 (which I summise is when you'll have got to that bit).

The M62 round the south of Leeds is where the issue will be IME.

I'd allow a country 2 1/2 hours for that trip at that time of day.

Anything involving the M62 is best achieved without involving the M62.

The M62 to Leeds at 4.30 on a Friday? I'm sure it'll be completely clear. Usually is. Make sure you take a bottle to wee in 😀

You should be 'reet - I'd leave it another half an hour if I could, as E-bound is normally busier on a Friday at 3/4pm - guess earlier finishes. It's on a morning that direction is a bastard (esp 24 onwards)

If it helps, 62 was very quiet this morning - bizarrely so.

A1 should be fine by the time you hit it.

2hrs 24mins to be precise 🙂

I would personally head up to the M65 corridor and across via A59 towards Ripon/A1.

There are no easy options though, but avoiding the M62 has to be a must.

The A1/A168 bit will be fine. Good luck with the rest.

It might not be as bad as expected. M60/62 has roadworks so a 50 limit up to Milnrow. The bit up to Rishworth Moor and over the tops will be wacky races as usual.
As soon as you hit the smart motorway section at J25 you'll be in a managed speed zone until J30
I reckon you'll be fine but you won't be doing 70 on empty roads with the wind in your hair

I bet he can still see his own house from the motorway! 😀
