My brand new hard drive will not burn anything to disc. Music nor text files. Its a DVD RW drive.
Im at a loss? Wondered if anyone had any ideas?
Cheers
apologies if you're some IT king, ...
have you formatted the discs? (try doing that in the new drive?)
can the OS see the drive at all?
and finally,
have you switched off & back on?
Im not the best with computers to be honest.
What do you mean by formatting the disc?
For example I try to burn an album in from I-tunes, just says 'checking media' then freezes. Sounds like the disc is clicking away in the drive.
A hard drive is not a DVD RW drive - check what you actually have *Exactly*, what it is that you want to do, and what software you are using - then someone will probably be able to help you.

Its a Compaq Presario CQ5103uk with a multimedia optical drive/DVD rewiter. Running Vista although I doubt that has much to do with burning mp3 files?
Any ideas?
Does iTunes let you burn to DVD then?
Ah, I think Im trying to burn to cd's when it should be dvd's.
Next question,
Can mp3 files be burnt to dvd for playback in say a home hifi?
Yes - burn as audio disc not data - should convert them to CDa
Thanks, Ill try that. Cheers.

It'll do both.

Not needed since the end floppy discs.
try a decent burner like http://www.imgburn.com/ its free and can burn most things.
but for burning audio cd's from mp3's i prefer using foobar2000 or burrrn

many hifi can play cd mp3, including cars but a lot less can play dvd's with mp3, mostly dedicated media players that you plug into hifi
Personally i'd use windows media player to burn them as an audio disc. I'm not a big fan of itunes
