Woolacombe, Croyde, Saunton Sands...

Taking the kids for their first jaunt in our new camper this weekend.
My oldest has just recently experienced body boarding so we're hoping to encourage him.
Don't fancy Cornwall, so looking for the closest campsite to a surf beach on the north Devon coast that we can find..
Spill the beans y'all..
Where're your hidden gems?

Campsite by the beach at puts.

If it's anything like the parking though it'll be mega expensive.

Or if your in a camper, I think you can park above the dunes on marine drive in woolacombe for a fee.

Tristram at polzeath right by survey beach and good for beginners/ kids. Not cheap though but nice site/ location. Not too far from a30 so pretty easy to get to for Cornwall.

By the way, when you are fighting the crowds, think of me, on the easternmost beach at Durness, enjoying 1-2 ft and at the right tide time 2-3ft clean, off shore winds where the it's so packed that we have seen only two surfers both not in the water with us, only us on body boards and the golden sandy beach is empty ( packed is 22 people so far)

Midges are hell if the wind drops but that lasted 30 mins so far this trip

Pretty much any of the camp sites are only a short drive to the beach. Ruda in croyde is walkable and theres another one by the national trust tea rooms I cant remember the name of.

You can stay overnight in a van in the putsborough car park for a fee, think its £40 though, the actual campsite there is always fully booked months ahead.

I stayed at the Orchard in Croyde a couple of weeks ago. It would be tight with a big camper, but fine in a VW size. Its a bit sloped (free ramps to borrow) but the people are lovely and very chilled with very clean facilities. and it helps being in the centre when you want to get something to eat, its just a short walk to the beach maybe 10-15 minutes.

Yeah.. I remember staying at Ruda with my kid's mum.. Was hoping for summink a bit more rustic.

Thanks for all the suggestions.. after trawling the webz for ideas we might head to Cornwall after all cos I was reminded of a little spot from my youth that still looks fairly natural 🙂

North morte farm in mortehoe. Nice site, amazing views. Can walk to woolacombe or pay for parking if you have loads of stuff.

Gower peninsula or Pembrokeshire is better for campsites right by good surf beaches.

Morthoe is good for families but very busy, it is very exposed though

if you want somewhere in cornwall that is proper old school, no fixed pitches, £10 a night, toilets/showers that havent been updated since the 70's, masses of space for kids to play on the campsite and a beautiful beach 10 min walk through the fields then I'm not going to tell you 😉
