Hi all.
Anyone know if a Nokia 5800 can be used as a basic Sat-Nav ?
It says it has GPS in the info.
If so, what would I have to install etc.
And please assume luddite levels of knowledge here, however I can usually suss things out if shouted at for long enough.
Hi, not 100% but the girlfriend has been using hers as a sat nav since she lost her in car charger for her proper sat nav , she says its brill and when you get out of the car it can change to walk and counts you down as you get closer... Think its just in Maps ...
you can also get the garmin software to install on the 5800.
yeah it does and it works well. you can also put google maps on it for free which has decent satnav compatibility with it.
There are many such applications, I use Sygic for in car navigation. There is another one more suitable to mountain biking called Viewranger.
Evening PT
Sygic here. Works on Smartphone and Symbian. Works fine. Full postcode search etc.
Thanks all.
Where (& how) can I get this Sygic then...?
PT
Nokia Maps built in (you can download the whole of the UK via your wireless access point at home saving a 3G charge) - but you have to pay a subscription for full Sat Nag features (route description etc.)
I find it OK as is, it shows you where you are on a map which is plenty good enough for me. Going to try Google Maps though too.
Nokia Sports tracker uses google maps for your routes... it's not as good as view ranger (OS maps) but is free.
cp what garmins software works on the 5800 as ive got topo and street mapping
and to those who use cygic ive been on the site but cant find any info on how to get it or how much it is '??? unless its in itunes for the iphone
thanks mick
It works well in the UK but having brought the US licence for Nokia Maps for a recent trip over that side of the pond I can confirm that its US map coverage is pretty hit and miss. For instance in some parts of Michigan where I spent most of my time entire map sections were missing including the interstates and freeways.
Luckily I've also Google maps loaded so that when I had to go somewhere the Nokia Maps coverage fell down I could screen print the Google maps image and use it for guidance like a normal map when I got closer.
The built-in maps is rather good, but you do have to subscribe.
I've also used it in the states and had no trouble - but predownloaded the maps too.
Sygic...?
Aaaaagh...now I see.
[taps side of nose].
i dont takisawa2 help 😉
