Since the forum revamp no pics are showing on any posts when I use my iPhone,
Any ideas why? They did before the change

It would appear that the problem is only another limitation of the iPhone!

+1 - really annoying when I went to view the friday fresh goods page, pictures appear as the page opens, then everyone of them except the first, goes into a grey blank. Happens on all the thread's too, except no blank even appears.
Cleared my cache & history, & hard reset the phone, it's still happening. Fricken annoying.

I went back to a thread a couple of days ago that I posted a pic on and it won't show now, it did then though so I think the revamp has caused it somehow

Just had this reply from Tom the webman

I'll have a look into it. I'm having the weekend off though. And FYI
it all works on my iPhone. But I have an inkling as to why it might
not and I also have an inkling as to a fix. But I'm trying to not look
at a computer for 2 days. My phone doesn't count. 🙂

Post my response on the thread if you will.

Ta.
Tom.

So all is not lost yet, thanks Tom.

I think the idea is that pics appear "just in time" when you scroll to a bit where the picture is.
I guess this may be to either save bandwidth, let the thread load quicker, or both.

It works ABSOLUTELY FINE on my iPhone 4 with just a very brief but noticeable (sub half-second) delay before the pic starts to appear. It does exactly the same thing on Firefox on the desktop.

I guess it may take slightly longer if you are on a shonky GPRS connection and/or have an older/slower phone.

iPhone 4 here with no problems at all.

I am getting the greyed out thing that GrahamS describes on the desktop though if I scroll really quickly as soon as the thread opens.

Same problem on my iPad. Using wifi too, so no issues with images downloading. Actually like one of the posters above I can see the images for a split second before they disappear. On the front page I can see the first 2 images OK... But all others are grey boxes. hmmmm....

iPod touch here. Can see pics using Safari. Cannot see pics using Opera mini. Shame as Opera is generally lots better.

Apart from it not supporting the Retina display and randomly throwing away posts for no reason. 🙂

Are folk still having trouble with this?

If so:

• what browser are you using? (Safari, Opera, other?)
• have you got Javascript switched off in the browser settings for some reason?
• wifi, 3G or GPRS/Edge connection?
• are you definitely giving it a second or when you are over a bit where a picture should be?

Issues: yep
Browser: Safari (iPhone)
JavaScript on: yes
Connection: WiFi
Pausing @ picture: well yes but on the forum unless they post a image link underneath I can't tell there's picture to be displayed. On the story pages I get one image then the rest are picture sized grey blanks

Hmmm, only just looked at this thread. I've noticed the lag before pics display, but I've posted a bunch of pics over the last couple of days, four around ten minutes ago on the iPhone calendar/satnav thread and had no issues at all using photobucket. I have issues getting pics from Flickr to show, but they just seem to be really shonky anyway. Or it could be me getting the proceedure wrong. Whatever, it's working for me. iPhone 4, BTW.
Here's one I prepared earlier:

Yeah I'm pretty sure that it won't work at all on Opera Mini.

That's because of the way Opera Mini works. It isn't a real browser. It asks the Opera severs for the page, they get it, render it, then basically take a picture of the entire page and send it to you.

So any web pages that do interactive bits, like requesting photos on the fly or even those post formatting buttons, will not work properly in Opera Mini.

in general no pics...

Hardware - Ipad
Browser - safari
Javascript - yes
Connection - wifi

Occasionally I see pics so wonder if it is something to do with the format of the original file (same issue happens on my nokia phone) - other than that, great new site

Shame, I thought that was quite a cool feature. Saved bandwidth and made the pages load faster.

But I guess it's not much use if it doesn't work for some folk. Guess you could browser-sniff and enable it selectively? Or maybe make it a profile preference?
