Apart from them trying to be metal at concerts. Whats wrong with them?

I will 'come out' and say they are very good live at rock music etc

I suppose they're ok if you've never heard any other music ever before - it could be a novel experience.

No, scrap that, it'd be better to have a World with no music in it at all than just Nickleback.

It's fashionable to hate them, an internet meme for redditers et al to denote coolness. I've heard a lot better, heard a lot worse, meh.

their songs all follow the same formula, and mostly have the same subject matter.
i saw them live a few years ago when they were supporting bon jovi, they were all right tbh.
wouldnt bother going to see them again though.
i also think they have suffered due to excessive radio airplay, especially 'rock star' and 'how you remind me'.
there are worse bands out there, but crucially, there are better too.

I bought Silver Side Up on honeymoon in Canada - happy days....first track is amazing, a mate's band used to open up gigs with a cover

But then I also like Bon Jovi, def Leppard, and all the other poodle perm rock that all the rest of you like to despise, and I don't care....

I don't understand all the hating on Nickelback (well, i do, it's because it's "cool"). I'm no fan, but Train and Maroon 5 immediately spring to mind as far more deserving of everyone's ire.

A little while ago I found a Nickleback cd in my girlfriends cd collection. Turned out it was bought for her by a friend.

I introduced it to an axe. The most fun anyone in the world has ever had with a Nickleback CD

Lodious..what from immature men who live on the internet? Re-skewer your world.

Ive been to live music metal clubs with naked girls dancing in cages. Whoopy-doo 😆

They represent everything that is wrong with music. The worst kind of bland, formulaic cringeworthy, utter, utter, utter, utter dire unimaginative middle of the road, complete and world ending pish known to the universe.

Not thinking they are good is nothing to do with trying to be cool, take yourself aside and apply a liberal slap. ...

I have had to go and listen to "How you remind me" because of this thread.

NOW I CAN'T GET IT OUT MY HEAD!

"Never made it as a wise man".

Bastards.

The short time I have been an STWer I have seen people come on here and just be negative.
Its boring and I've tried to be a " if you don't have something nice to say don't say it" person ....
but nickleback what a total pile of shit. Its like the man has said "people like rock music, that means we can make money. Lets find the lamest rock band so that people who don't like music can pretend they do".
Cynical American marketing.
They do actually hate you and your family. Fact.

So you have to give one the lethal injection....

there's a way around this, I have a cunning plan

What you do is tie them together, balanced on a very high window ledge. Inject one and as he slumps he'll take the other with him over the edge to a big, splattery doom!

Surely giving them half a shot each would give them a long lingering death rather than one person a swift slide into oblivion.

It's because they're dull and formulaic, much like Train and Maroon5, in fact. None of those would cause me to run screaming to the nearest motorway bridge and throw myself off, just tune out, but the chances of me actually being forced to listen to them is pretty slim, as I don't have a single track by any of them out of the 14,000 or so in iTunes, and I only listen to 6Music when I have the radio on, and they rarely play Maroon5.
Over the last 41 years of gig-going, believe me, I have seen far better support bands than any of those three could ever aspire to be.
(Like Blondie, QOTSA, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers...).

New Order

Absolute tuneless, talentless shit of the highest proportions. I had it ALL forced down my neck by a housemate years ago up to the point where I used to leave the house if he put it on. And I've had the misfortune to see them live. What a load of bilge.

EDIT
Oh yeah. Whilst I'm mid rant: Music snobs. Those who tell us what we should be listening to and who the 'most influential bands' are. Get stretched, the lot of you. It's just an opinion. Nowt more. Other peoples opinions are just as valid as yours, even if we don't read tossers mags like NME etc

That's all. Thanks.

This. They're pretty uninspiring, even for the genre, but I don't really see why they wind people up so much.

It's always been trendy to dislike pop-rock bands. Nickleback are just the current-day Bon Jovi, trying to appeal to both camps and being neither one nor the other as a result. I don't mind them. personally; the singles I've heard are catchy enough, at any rate.

TBH, I'll cheerfully take the likes of Nickleback over any of this Autotuned shite that's saturating the charts at the moment.

No. I've just been buying music since 1970. And borrowing and copying too. Anyone with only 100 or so albums after forty years obviously has no interest in music. If someone only bought two albums a month over that time that's 969 albums, averaging 10 tracks/album, 9600 tracks. Add on downloads, and the 140 free sample CD's from The Word Magazine, which have fifteen tracks on, there's 2100 extra going on 2500-2600.
There's 11700 tracks with very little effort. There are people around with Terrabytes of ripped music, I'm a lightweight by comparison. Those Word CD's have been a great source of music, I'm going to miss them; fortunately Uncut magazine does a decent sampler too.

Some people crawl so far up their own arse they forget it's possible to enjoy stuff that isn't as cool and edgy as they think they are.

Or listens to the radio a lot. My CD-buying habit pretty much stopped dead with the advent of Internet radio, DAB and Spotify.

(Or loves music but can't afford "only" £25 / month on CDs)
